Tournament Information
Orinda Tennis Academy Challenger @ St Mary's College -A tournament for NorCal's Rising Tennis Champions
Thank you! Thank you for your support of NorCal tennis and supporting college tennis here at Saint Mary's College where proceeds go to it's tennis program. We look forward to meeting you on your journey towards tennis success!
Tournament Evaluation: We appreciate you thoughts and suggestions at the end of the tournament. https://www.ustanorcal.com/tournaments/Tournament_eval.asp
Location of Play: Tim Korth Tennis Complex, Saint Mary's College of California, 1928 Saint Mary's Rd., Moraga CA, 94556
Player Eligibility: Please check your son or daughter's Junior Profile at ustanorcal.com and make sure they are qualified for this level of tournament. Please contact Sofia Donlevy, R.O.G.Y. Coordinator, at donlevy@norcal.usta.com if you have any questions.
Singles Draw Format: Singles is FMLC, First Match Losers Consolation. Main Draw matches are all 2 out of 3 sets, with a 10 point tiebreaker played in lieu of the 3rd set (add scoring). 3rd/4th Play-off matches are played the same as the main draw singles matches. Consolation matches are all 8 game pro-sets with add scoring.
Doubles Draw Format: Doubles is SE, Single Elimination. All matches are an 8 game pro-set with add scoring.
Total Entrant Capacity/Draw Limits: Ideally we look to accommodate all players but to ensure a properly run tournament we do have our limits. Player capacity for this event is 120 +/- 8-12 players depending on the registrations for each event. Singles draws are limited to 16 or 32 players and doubles draws are limited to 16 players/8 teams. This is subject to change within the guidelines of challenger play.
Selections: If entrant capacity exceeds the limit, players will be selected from lower to higher ratings within the guidelines of challenger play.
Registering for Doubles: If you wish to play doubles with a partner please indicate who your partner is and have them do the same. If you would like to play doubles but don't have a partner please still register for doubles without an indicated partner. One will be assigned to you if other players who wish to play doubles don't have a partner as well. If there is an odd number of doubles entrants 1 player will be randomly selected not to play so the draw can be even. Players who do not register for doubles will only play singles.
USTA NorCal Tournament Information: For more information please visit this website: http://www.norcal.usta.com/juniors/tournaments/
Match Times: At the moment all matches will be played over a maximum of a 2 day period. On Saturday matches will most likely begin at 8 AM. Entries are limited and selections are made by the tournament director in order to ensure a smoothly run tournament over the course of two days.
Weather Updates: Currently, weather forecasts call for clear skies and mild temperatures. This tournament is on, so we encourage you to invite others to play! If the weather changes or you are unsure if the times for matches will be delayed, that information will be posted here. Please do not contact the tournament director unless it is an emergency in regards to inclement weather.
Withdrawing from the tournament: If you are withdrawing before the tournament has closed it's registration you will receive a full refund. Please do so on the tournament page. If you are withdrawing after registration has closed and before the entries have been processed you may or may not receive a refund. E-mail the tournament director immediately if this is the case. No refunds will be awarded once entries into the tournament have been processed. In all cases, please e-mail the tournament director at tenniscoachdrew@gmail.com as to why you are withdrawing. If you are withdrawing during the tournament for any reason please e-mail the tournament director as well.
Free Parking: When entering the college you will see a guard gate shack on your left and there is no need to stop unless you'd like to ask directions to the tennis courts. Make a right at the "T" in the road and then parking for the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex is just past the Recreation Center on the right hand side. If there is restricted parking please park in a lot which is available.
Player Check-In & Orientation: Players need to check in 15 minutes prior to any match for the tournament and should double check with the tournament desk staff for their following matches especially singles. Remember if you lose your first singles match you will play in the consolation. There is no official orientation but please become familiar with First Match Losers Consolation (FMLC) for singles. This can be a bit confusing for first time participants and parents.
Practice Courts: Practice courts may be available at the tournament site but are not guaranteed. We recommend going to Miramonte High School in Orinda or Campolindo High School in Moraga to find a warm-up court.
Player Amenities: Snacks for players may be provided and there is a vending machine on site along with a drinking fountain. If you wish to purchase something more substantial we recommend you go to the Moraga Safeway where you'll also find Bianca's deli.
Parent Coaching/Parent Misbehavior: During the course of singles matches, parents are allowed to coach in between the 2nd set and the 3rd set 10 point tiebreaker. There is a 3 minute break in between sets during that time which is the ONLY time parents can coach. During doubles matches there is no parent coaching. Players can be penalized for parent misbehavior so please take the time before/matches to educate your player with issues they may be experiencing such as line calls, scoring, strategy, etc. Misbehavior by parents/siblings/relatives/guardians etc. which is disruptive to players, physically/verbally abusive, will result in that person being removed permanently from the tournament.
Ball Type: Penn Championship Extra Duty
Dress Code: Appropriate tennis attire is to be worn at all times including non-marking tennis shoes.
Unique tournament issues: We recommend you please keep pets at home but if you do bring an animal please take care of it appropriately.
