RAIN DELAY SATURDAY AFTERNOON AFTER 4 pm
It's lightly raining right now. The four matches that were on court when it started raining will resume when it clears. ALL SCHEDULED MATCHES at 4 pm OR LATER on Saturday are now in a 1 HOUR DELAY.
|
WEATHER UPDATE as of Saturday, 9:30 am - 4 courts are playable
We didn't get the heavy rain that was forecast overnight - go figure! Four courts are playable already, four are not. It's so humid, it will take those four a while to dry. All that said, if players for the early matches arrive early, we should be able to start playing early on those four courts. Sale is underway, beer is tapped, we're ready to play - see everyone in a little while! Remember, we're doing the boxed lunches tomorrow (Sunday) instead of today, because the rain pushed us back so far.
|
BOXED LUNCHES ON SUNDAY NOW, instead of Saturday
Boxed lunches will be provided for players on SUNDAY (11 - 2), available in the Tennis Shop. Since we don't start till after lunch on Saturday, this seemed to make better sense! Many thanks to our sponsors,Riner Counseling (Mary-Catherine McClain Riner) and State Farm Insurance (Paul Sheets).

First Match Times are posted - click the report listed at the top of these note,, as welll as the draws
The forecast for Friday is calling for heavy rain, so I have not scheduled anything for Friday night or Saturday morning, to give us time to dry out. Matches begin at 12:30 on Saturday. IF THE WEATHER HOLDS, we'll be able to play everything, including the consolation rounds, finishing late afternoon on Sunday. Check THIS SITE for messages from me if weather delays do come into play - I never have time to call everyone, and often don't have time to email you, either. This site is the primary communication tool now that entries have closed. If you see any obvious conflicts in your own schedules (in 2 events), please send me an email - you all are the best proofers for tournament schedules! A few draws are "TBD" for the finals on Sunday, but we'll be able to set the times as the semis get underway.

OPEN DIVISION PRIZE MONEY - SEE UPDATE BELOW
Open divisions (singles, doubles and mixed) offer prize money. Assuming draws are FULL (16 singles players, 8 doubles teams), the following payouts will be made: SINGLES $300 Champion, $150 Finalist. DOUBLES $100 Champions (team), $60 Finalists (team). If draws are not full, money will be decreased proportionately. If draws are larger than 21 players (or 11 teams), money will be increased proportionately. Once entries close, this website will be updated to announce the final, revised payouts. Men's Singles has 6 entries and will pay $150 (champion) and $75 (finalist). Women's Singles has 3 entries, and will pay $80 (champion) and $40 (finalist).

MATCH and TIEBREAK FORMAT and CONSOLATION DRAWS!
A ten-point match tiebreak will be played in lieu of a 3rd set. As always, a seven-point set tiebreak will be played at 6-all in any other set. The COMAN procedure will be used for all NTRP matches, which the standard tiebreak procedure will be used for all OPEN matches. All NTRP divisions will play a First Match Losers Consolation Bracket, which guarantees every player 2 matches in every event.

THANK YOU, SPONSORS: RINER COUNSELING AND STATE FARM INSURANCE
Thank you to Healy Point members Mary Catherine and Michael Riner of Riner Counseling, and to Paul Sheets of State Farm Insurance (in Gray) for sponsoring this tournament. Their sponsorship will make possible boxed lunches for all players on Saturday!

RULES OF TENNIS, "THE CODE", AND THE POINT PENALTY SYSTEM (PPS)
All competitive tennis is played according to the "Rules of Tennis" established by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), and by "the Code" governing principles of fair play and sportsmanship. In addition, sanctioned tournaments such as this one are also played under the Point Penalty System (PPS) to enforce punctuality and conduct. Thanks in advance for the good sportsmanship that we know you'll display while enjoying a great weekend of competitive tennis!
|
AWARDS
Awards for this tournament will be wooden plaques for Champions (in draws of 3 or less) and for both Champion and Finalist (in draws larger than 3). They will incorporate the cool new logo in use for the Healy Point Classic.

TWO EVENTS BUT ONLY ONE LEVEL WITHIN AN EVENT
For scheduling purposes, with only 8 courts and 2.5 days, we must limit entries to one level within any event. For instance, you can only play one level of mixed doubles. The reason for this is rest. For example, while the 7.0s are on court, the 8.0s are playing, and while the 8.0s are playing, the 7.0s are resting. If you're playing both 7.0 and 8.0, I cannot schedule you back to back without a rest period, so it throws off the logical schedule for the entire tournament. While you might be playing 7.0 and 8.0, someone else might be playing 6.0 and 7.0, so all three events are affected by two players. Thanks for your understanding.

DIRECTIONS TO HEALY POINT COUNTRY CLUB - 293 RIVER NORTH BLVD MACON GA 31211

At the end of the ramp, turn EAST (left if coming from Atlanta, right if coming from the south) toward Carrabba's, Outback, Shell, Waffle House. Just around the curve, less than 1/2 mile, turn RIGHT into the River North Subdivision. Give the guard your name and tell him that you are going to the Tennis courts.
