GENERAL INFORMATION
When you register, be sure to provide your email address and cell phone
number during the registration process. We do not have access to phone numbers
and email addresses of the tournament participants UNLESS the player re-enters
their contact information at the time of the event registration. This means
that if a player does not enter their phone number and email information each
time they register for a tournament, we will not be able to contact them for
any reason, including withdrawals, defaults, etc. Your cooperation will ensure

CHAMPIONSHIP LEVEL TOURNAMENTS
Beginning in 2014, some of the Championship tournaments -
those designated “Age Up” - will select some of the players from the ranking
list of the next-younger division. This means that when, for example, an 18s
division Championship Age Up Tournament is held, some of the players will be
selected for the tournament using the 16s ranking list. NorCal has transformed
its Championship Tournaments offering for advanced and intermediate players in
several important ways:
Age
Up vs. Age Division: There are now
two types of tournaments - “Age Up” and “Age Division” Championships. The
following distinguishes them from one another:
• Selection - “Age Up” tournaments select some
players from the Final Ranking List of the next-younger age division, while
“Age Division” tournaments select all players from the Final Ranking List of
the Division.
• Draw Size - “Age Up” tournaments have a maximum
singles draw size of 48; “Age Division” tournaments have a maximum singles draw
size of 40.
• Doubles - No doubles will take place at the
3-day “Age Division” tournaments, but doubles is required to be offered at the 4 to
5-day “Age Up” tournaments.
Limited
Draws: As noted above, the singles
draws are limited, but this should not be of concern to players:
• All of the Age Up Tournaments are held at the
same time as the lower-level Sectional Open Jamboree. This means that players
that don’t get into the Age Up Championship can play in a Sectional Open
Jamboree if they so desire.
• Three of the Age Division Tournaments are held
concurrent with significant USTA national tournaments (USTA National Selection
Tournaments and USTA Regional Tournaments) and one is held concurrent with the
higher-level Excellence Tournament. This means that many advanced players that
would normally play a Championship in 2013 will be off playing nationally,
giving players that stay in-Section the opportunity to compete.
New
Singles Draw Format: All Championship Tournaments will use the new Feed-In
Championship through the Round of 16. This format takes the losers of the
Quarterfinals and puts them in a separate draw to compete for 5th and 6th
place.

DRAW SIZE
48 players will be selected for each age division. When
the singles and doubles draws are full, the 16 seeded singles players and 8
seeded doubles teams receive Round 1 byes in a 48-draw tournament.
|
SELECTION PROCESS
Selection will be done by USTA NorCal staff.
1. Up to 18 players from the top 30 of the USTA NorCal
Ranking List of the next-younger division.
2. Remaining players selected using the most recently
published NorCal Rankings List of the division.
3. Alternates ordered using the most recently published
NorCal Rankings List of the division.
Selection Policy - Concurrent Championship Age
Up Tournaments and Sectional Open Jamborees:
This January
tournament is concurrent with a Sectional Open Jamboree. Selection shall first
be done by USTA NorCal staff for the Championship Age Up Tournament. A player
entered in both tournaments that is not accepted into the Championship Age Up
Tournament shall be eligible for selection into the Sectional Open Jamboree. A
player may be an alternate for both tournaments; however once a player accepts
a position in a draw of one tournament that player may not subsequently
withdraw from that tournament to play in the other. Doing so shall be
considered a violation of the Concurrent Tournament Rule.
|
CONCURRENT TOURNAMENTS
When entries close, a player shall not be entered in two or more sanctioned tournaments if any parts of the tournaments overlap, unless each Tournament Committee involved understands the situation and concurs in writing. If entries for the overlapping tournaments close on different dates, approval must be received from all Tournament Committees no later than the entry closing date that occurs last. Players who enter a tournament and play it to completion, may then enter another tournament with overlapping dates without permission. A player who is on the alternate list in one tournament is not considered in violation of the Concurrent Tournament Rule if they enter another concurrent tournament.
Players who violate the Concurrent Tournament Rule shall forfeit all ranking points earned at the concurrent tournaments.
Exception to Entering Concurrent Tournament: Concurrent entries shall be permitted, but playing in concurrent tournaments is not permitted under the following conditions: • Concurrent entry is into one division of a Championship Age Up Tournament and one division of a Sectional Open Jamboree. The entry into the Championship Age Up Tournament may be in a younger division than the Sectional Open Jamboree.
Once a player accepts a position in a draw of one tournament that player may not subsequently withdraw from that tournament to play in the other. Doing so shall be considered a violation of the Concurrent Tournament Rule.
