Universal Tennis Ratings:
Every NorCal player that has competed in a USTA National or NorCal tournament that uses a yellow tennis ball in the past 12 months has a Universal Tennis Rating. This is the rating that is used to select players for a Super Series and group them into Compass Draws. The rating is based on a player’s most recent 30 singles match results so long as they took place in the 12-month period. Each player is assigned a level (from 1 to 16, with 16 as the highest) based on the level of their opponent and the match score. Levels are without regard to age or gender. Eligibility:
This tournament is open to both residents and non-residents of USTA NorCal. USTA Membership is required. Players must meet the age eligibility requirements of the division entered. A player may continue to play in the 18s division until the month they turn 19. A player may play in the 14s division until the month they turn 15, except that any player that wins the top flight of a 14 division Super Series MUST play in the bottom 18 division flight in the next Super Series played, regardless of whether the player mistakenly enters the 14 division.
|
14-and-Under Players - Entries Permitted in Two Divisions, But Will Be Selected for One Division:
The purpose of Super Series is to group players with like-ratings. While it is not required, USTA NorCal highly recommends that players aged 14 and under with ratings similar to older players consider entering the 18s division. It is also highly recommended that a 14 year old that has a rating that makes the player competitive with older players, but that isn’t certain he/she will be selected for the older division, enter both the 14 and 18 divisions. This is permitted in a Super Series without prior approval of the Tournament Committee. The player will be selected for the 18 division if that is the best competitive opportunity among the 32 total players selected. If the player is not selected, he/she is still eligible for selection into the 14s division.
|
Draw Size and Format; Match Format:
The draw is limited to 32 players in each division. Four 8-player compass draws will be played in each division. If the draw is full each participant will play 3 singles matches. All matches will be the best of 3 Tiebreak sets. Some players will have one match on Saturday and two on Sunday; some will have two on Saturday and one on Sunday.
