THANK YOU FOR PLAYING!
Thank you participants for making the tournament a success, and to the players that read and signed the Junior Player Oath - we had participation from 100% of the competitors. Sportsmanship is an important aspect of our game and we appreciate your willingness to acknowledge the important role you each play in ensuring fair play.
The Tournament Committee had the privilege of identifying individuals to be recognized for outstanding sportsmanship. While we are always lucky to have participants that honor the game in the way they conduct themselves on court, the following players stood out and are to be congratulated for their sportsmanship: Carolina Cherntetsky Hannah Highsmith Leslie Ligier Julia Pham Laura Sanders Allura Zamarripa
Win or lose, we hope your experience at the tournament was a great one. USTA NorCal encourages all tournament players to complete an evaluation on the tournament - the link is below.

Tournament Overview:
Super Series are new to the 2014 NorCal Junior Tournament Calendar. They are level-based singles tournaments that group players by their ratings into 4 Compass Draws of 8 players in each division. A total of 32 players are selected for each division. The intent is to put players in a draw with similarly skilled opponents to maximize competitive match opportunities, and the tournament is intended for advanced players. Because players are selected and grouped based on ratings, which does not rate players based on age, Super Series events are offered in the 18s and 14s divisions, but not the 16s and 12s. 2014 Super Series Dates are as follows: March 29-30; May 17-18; July 19-20; November 22-23. For a complete description of the Super Series that appears in the USTA NorCal Junior Tournament Rules, click on the link - Rule 11.H.

Universal Tennis Ratings:
Every NorCal player that has competed in a USTA National or NorCal tournament that uses a yellow tennis ball in the past 12 months has a Universal Tennis Rating. This is the rating that is used to select players for a Super Series and group them into Compass Draws. The rating is based on a player’s most recent 30 singles match results so long as they took place in the 12-month period. Each player is assigned a level (from 1 to 16, with 16 as the highest) based on the level of their opponent and the match score. Levels are without regard to age or gender. Eligibility:
This tournament is open to both residents and non-residents of USTA NorCal. USTA Membership is required. Players must meet the age eligibility requirements of the division entered. A player may continue to play in the 18s division until the month they turn 19. A player may play in the 14s division until the month they turn 15, except that any player that wins the top flight of a 14 division Super Series MUST play in the bottom 18 division flight in the next Super Series played, regardless of whether the player mistakenly enters the 14 division.
|
14-and-Under Players - Entries Permitted in Two Divisions, But Will Be Selected for One Division:
The purpose of Super Series is to group players with like-ratings. While it is not required, USTA NorCal highly recommends that players aged 14 and under with ratings similar to older players consider entering the 18s division. It is also highly recommended that a 14 year old that has a rating that makes the player competitive with older players, but that isn’t certain he/she will be selected for the older division, enter both the 14 and 18 divisions. This is permitted in a Super Series without prior approval of the Tournament Committee. The player will be selected for the 18 division if that is the best competitive opportunity among the 32 total players selected. If the player is not selected, he/she is still eligible for selection into the 14s division. Note that any player that wins the top flight of a 14 division Super Series MUST play in the bottom 18 division flight in the next Super Series played, regardless of whether the player mistakenly enters the 14 division.
|
Draw Size and Format; Match Format:
The draw is limited to 32 players in each division. Four 8-player compass draws will be played in each division. If the draw is full each participant will play 3 singles matches. All matches will be the best of 3 Tiebreak sets. Some players will have one match on Saturday and two on Sunday; some will have two on Saturday and one on Sunday.
|
Selection Process:
Except as set forth below under the Move Up/Move Down Selection Policy below, the top 32 rated players with timely entries in each division will be selected using the most recently available Universal Tennis Ratings. It is anticipated that the ratings available on or about Wednesday, July 9 will be used. Selection will be posted on or before the end of the day on Friday, July 11.
Move Up/Move Down Selection Policy: In each of the Super Series compass draws of 8, two players win/win (finalists of East) and two players lose/lose (players in South draw). This policy applies to the win/win and lose/lose players from the March 29-30 Super Series played at Natomas and the May 17-18 Super Series played at Stanford.
WIN/WIN PLAYERS: Regardless of rating at the time of selection, the win/win players must play the next-higher flight in the next Super Series entered, except that if the win/win players in the top flight shall stay in the top flight. This includes the winners of the top flight in the 14s division who must play in the bottom flight of the 18s division in the next Super Series they enter.
LOSE/LOSE PLAYERS: Regardless of rating at the time of selection, the lose/lose players must play the next-lower flight in the next Super Series entered. • If the two players that lose/lose in the bottom 18s division flight are age eligible for the 14s division draw of the next Super Series, they may opt to either play in the top 14s division flight or they may re-enter the 18s division and are not eligible for selection into the lowest 18s division flight unless the draw is not full without them. • Players that lose/lose in the bottom 18s division draw that are not age eligible for the 14s division draw may enter the 18s division and are not eligible for selection into the lowest 18s division flight unless the draw is not full without them. • The two players that lose/lose in the bottom 14s division flight are not eligible for selection into the lowest 14s division flight unless the draw is not full without them.

TOURNAMENT SITE & PARKING
• All tournament matches will be played at the Round Hill Tennis Club on the upper tennis courts. • Please note that Round Hill is hosting a swim meet on Saturday. Parking will be very limited in the club parking lots, but there will be availability on the nearby neighborhood streets. Plan ahead to arrive for you match on time as failure to find a parking space will not be an excuse for enforcing lateness penalties. If you're unsure as to whether you will be on time, please drop off your player at the club so they can check in on time and then look for a parking space.
