Tournament Update - Air Quality
Hello Pam Krone Tournament Players,
We are looking at a couple of unfortunate challenges to our tennis tournament this weekend. The fires in and around the Lake Tahoe area have diminished our air quality to levels that have been in the moderate to unhealthy for sensitive groups categories (this sensitive group is for example the elderly, the very young and those with existing lung conditions.) The outlook for the weekend is to have conditions similar to what we are experiencing today with the air quality remaining in the moderate category. The moderate category does not affect the average individual to adverse effects and so the decision to continue with the tournament has been decided. However with that decision we also want to still try and limit everyone’s exposure time to even the moderate category of air quality. So we are going to shorten the format of the tournament to a best of three sets with a match tiebreak played at one set all. This will be in lieu of our original format of a full third set. We know that many of you are looking at multiple matches this weekend so our effort is again to try and provide a fun yet as safe as possible tournament experience to all. We hope that you understand that this is a tough decision and we wavered between cancelling the event completely and continuing with the original format. The decision to shorten the format is what we feel at the time is the correct decision. If conditions unexpectedly get worse and the air quality moves into an unhealthy range for all then the decision to cancel/delay/reschedule will be made at that time. In an effort again to try and keep our players needs at the forefront of our decision making process we have decided that if any players are unwilling to play this weekend’s event we are going to allow them to withdraw from the tournament prior to the start of their play without penalty and will also be offered a refund or a credit for another Tahoe Donner tournament.
Thank you again for the great support that you have shown to all of our events at The Tahoe Donner Tennis Center and we look forward to seeing you here this weekend or at another event is the near future.
See you on the courts, Ian Mindell

Friday Night Play
Due to the size of the Men's 4.0 and 3.5 singles divisions we will need to include a round of play on Friday night. All play will begin at 5:30pm sharp. All matches still playing at 7:30pm will be called for darkness and resume play at 7am Saturday morning. Only two 4.0 matches and three 3.5 matches will need to be played Friday evening to then be able to get these divisions into the round of 16. Pizza and drinks will be served to our Friday night participants. Please check the draws closely to see if you will need to play Friday. See you on the courts. Ian Mindell

Third/Fourth Playoff For All Events
Remember this is a Grand Slam event and all divisions are required to have a third/fourth playoff. This means that any division with four players/teams or more will have the semifinalists that do not win playoff for third and fourth. Any division with three players/teams will do a round robin and divisions with only two players/teams will have just one match. Lots of tennis to be had this weekend at Tahoe Donner Tennis. See you on the courts. Ian Mindell

Concurrent Tournament Rule
A player shall not be entered at the time entries close in two or more USTA sanctioned tournaments scheduled to take place at the same time, in whole or in part, unless each Tournament Committee involved understands the situation, concurs in writing, and each agrees to accommodate the player’s schedule. The final decision rests with each tournament committee. If one tournament agrees to accept concurrent entries and accommodate the player's schedule but the concurrent tournament does not, the player may not enter both.
If entries for the overlapping tournaments close on different dates, approval must be received from all Tournament Committees no later than the entry closing date that occurs last.
Players who enter a tournament and play it to completion, may then enter another tournament with overlapping dates without permission.
If a player violates this concurrent tournament rule ranking points earned in any concurrent tournament played will not count toward ranking or the Grand Prix Points Race.
