This year at the National Senior Women’s Hard Court Championships we are excited to offer a Tennis & Art Festival. On Tuesday, October 15th we will be offering an art class with local artist Jim Sarno. At age 5, Jim Sarno visited Disneyland and dreamed of working there someday. He went on to achieve his childhood dream, and moreover, continues to tap into that youthful sense of wonder that he has held on to throughout his multi-faceted career as a amusement park ride designer and full time fine artist.
Among Sarno’s career highlights are designing for Sid & Marty Kroft Studios, producers of “The Donny and Marie Osmond Show” character sculpting for Hanna Barbera Productions creating the mascot costume for the Seattle Supersonics designing costumes for the “Sesame Street Live” stage show and doing the exterior props for Treasure Island resort casino in Las Vegas.
His handiwork for Disney as an Imagineer includes multiple installations at Disney World’s Epcot Center, the fountain in the Land Pavilion foyer and the “Journey Into Imagination” ride, for which he did the model design. Some of his fondest memories of his years at Disney include working with Harriet Burns, Disney’s first female Imagineer.
Sarno has also spent much of his career inspiring young people to find their own creative spark, as a teacher and art project manager. He is now in his 19th year with the educational publisher CTB/McGraw-Hill, guiding its Student Art Project, teaching art to adults and children of all ages throughout the country.
“In my experience I believe most people want to know they count and are being seen and heard. When someone is doing what they love, all of life is better, not only for them, but for everyone they come in contact with.” Sarno’s philosophy is a simple one: Art makes people happy, and it’s something that benefits everyone involved.
You will have until 5:00pm Wednesday, October 16th to complete your art work for entry.
Please RSVP your seat in the art class by emailing scott@chamisal.com. Good Luck!!
