Interested in Southern Closed?
If you are interested in going to the Southern Closed, you must sign up! This sounds basic, but you have to sign up by the deadline (Friday at 11:59pm) to be able to go.
The Endorsement Lists will be posted on TennisLink in the Rankings section and say "Endorsement List". Even if you are not in the top 9 (BG 12s) or top 11 (BG 10s, 14s, 16s, 18s) you could still get in if the others from Kentucky do not sign up, other states don't fill their spots, or there are additional spots available in the draw.
ALTERNATE LIST
If you don't get in initially, your name will be placed on an alternate list. Alternates are moved up when players drop out. You can also go to the tournament to be an on-site alternate in case someone doesn't show (yes, that happens).
|
Southern Closed Information
It is the players responsibility to sign up for the Southern Closed. The Entry Deadline for Southern Closed is during the Creason, so anyone interested in playing must sign up before the Endorsement List is completed. Also, it is the player's responsibility to check the Endorsment List and Competitors and/or Alternate list for the Southern Closed event.
Links to the Southern Closed events can be found on the Creason Page at www.ustaky.com

Change in B18 Singles & B16 Doubles Seeds
Due to a withdrawals in the B18 Singles, we are now under 48 players, so we can only have 8 seeds. You must have 48 players in a draw to have 16 seeds. There were 50 at one point, now only 45. For B16 Doubles, there were 24 teams, but now only 23, so we can only have 4 seeds. Thank you for your understanding.

10 & Under Divisions—Singles & Doubles
Beginning January 1, 2011, ALL 10 & Under tournament play in Kentucky (and Southern Section) will use the QuickStart Tennis Play Format. The following are mandatory parameters for all play in 10 & Under tournaments:
- Racket—up to 25 inches in length
- Ball—Orange Low Compression Ball
- Court—60’*21’ for singles, 60’*27’ for doubles
- Scoring—Singles—2 short sets to 4 games with no-ad scoring. At 4-4, a Set Tiebreak (first to 7, win by 2) is played. In lieu of a 3rd set, a Set Tiebreak (first to 7, win by 2) is played to determine the winner of the match. Doubles—1 no-ad set to 6 games. If the score reaches 6-6, a Set Tiebreak is played (first to 7, win by 2)
All 10s tournaments, including the Creason and Southern Closed, will use the parameters listed above. Players should be able to keep score, call their lines, and, ultimately, complete the match without a permanent court monitor.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

RULES & REGS
|
Rule Changes for 2011
The following rule changes will take place for all USTA Sanctioned Tournaments beginning in 2011:
- All matches with a full 3rd set receive a 10 minute break before starting the 3rd set (this change gives the 10 minute break to the 18 & Under Division)
- When playing a Match Tiebreak in Lieu of the 3rd Set, players receive a 3 minute break where coaching is allowed.
Suggestions: The players should stay on the court during this time and coaching should be done through the fence. Note: If a player is not back to the court and ready to play after the 3 minute break, the player is defaulted from the match (this stems from the rule that if you are late after a break, the player receives a game penalty) Note: If a player goes to the restroom during the break, he/she is granted extra time. The opponent can receive coaching throughout the entire break if the player who is going to the bathroom is believed to be receiving coaching.
- A player loses the point if he/she reverses the call from “out” to “in”.

Tennis Parent
Junior tennis should be a fun and rewarding experience for our children. Character building lessons such as hard work, discipline, sportsmanship, and handling adversity are regularly on display. Parents of junior players should also enjoy the time spent with their children and watching them develop not just into better tennis players, but into good citizens. Regrettably, USTA Southern has encountered a disturbing trend over the past few years involving parents of junior players.
Poor or negative behavior by a parent(s) can result in in many infractions. For instance, a player can receive a Code Violation, parents can be asked to be quiet, leave the tournament site/facility, or be suspended from attending tournaments for 90 days.
