Alternates By Event DIRECTIONS TO SITES HOTELS CHANGES IN THE TARHEEL QUALIFIER

MATCH TIMES AND CHECKIN PROCEDURES
It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that players check in 30 minutes prior to all scheduled match times. It is the responsibility of each player to obtain his or her match time and court site for every match. This information will be posted on the tournament website. Players are to report directly to the site indicated on the online draw, rain or shine.

Directions to Hanes Park-Tournament Headquarters
Hanes Park (HPC) (625 W End Blvd, Winston-Salem, NC 27101)
Approaching Winston-Salem on Business I-40 from the east or the west,
take Cloverdale Avenue exit off I-40. Turn left onto Cloverdale Avenue.
Remain on Cloverdale to Hawthorne Rd. Turn left onto Hawthorne Rd.
Go one block and bear right onto Glade St. Hanes Park will be on your left.

TOURNAMENT DESK CONTACT INFO
Tournament headquarters, main desk at Hanes Park call 336-724-0666. The phone will be activated on the first day of the tournament, so if you have any questions prior to the tournament, please email us at wsti1@aol.com.

ON-SITE ALTERNATES
On-site alternates are to register at Hanes Park (tournament headquarters) at 7:30 am, Saturday morning. You must register with Anne. You will be put on a list and kept at Hanes. If someone drops out or does not show, she will send you to the appropriate site.

PRACTICE COURTS
You may practice at the sites before 7:30 am except at HPH, FCC, and HPC. Additional sites available for practice are Parkland High School, Leinbach, Polo, and South Fork.

PLAYER PARTY
Lunch time on Saturday and Sunday is a Gelato Party. Players, parents, and coaches come to Hanes Park for some of your favorite Gelato flavors.

RULE CHANGES
*There will be a rest period of 3 minutes between the 2nd set & a third
set tie breaker with coaching allowed. PLAYERS IN THE TARHEEL QUALIFIER MUST REMAIN ON COURT DURING THIS REST PERIOD.
*If a player decides to change his call, the player will lose the point
*BG 18's will have a 10 minute break between 2nd & 3rd sets when playing
2 out of 3 tiebreak sets.

10's DIVISION
10 & under TENNIS
Boys and Girls 10's will be playing a COMPASS DRAW. Girls will be playing on hard courts. The Boy's division will be playing on clay.
All 10’s play will be on 60’ courts with the orange ball & racquets no larger than 25”. Scoring will be 2 out of 3 short sets (first to win 4 games). A 7 point tiebreak will be played for the 3rd set. To participate in the Southern Closed, the Qualifier is a requirement.

10's SCORING
10's scoring- Girls and Boys 10 & Under will be played on a 60' court
with the Orange lower compression balls and a 25" or smaller racquet is
required. Scoring: Players will play the best of 3 sets. The first
player to win 4 points wins the game. The first player to win 4 games
wins the set. If the game score is tied at 40/40(deuce), one point will
be played to decide the game (no ad scoring). The receiver may decide
which court to receive the serve. A tiebreaker will be played for the
third set. The first player to win 7 points (by 2 points) wins the
tiebreaker. To start the tiebreaker, the first server serves one point
from the deuce court and then players will alternate serving two points
each, beginning from the ad court.

Matches played with Tiebreak in Lieu of 3rd Set
A 3-minute Set Break will be taken after splitting sets. During this break the players may receive coaching on court. Players are not permitted to leave the court except for a legitimate toilet/change of attire break. A player taking a toilet/change of attire break, for which "reasonable time" is allowed (see court official), may receive coaching during that break. A player remaining on court while the opponent takes a toilet/change of attire break may receive coaching until their opponent returns. Cell phones may be used by players on court to receive coaching during the break. A player taking a toilet/change of attire break may also use a cell phone to receive coaching. Cell phones must be turned off at the end of the 3-minute set break.

NEW FOR QUALIFIER
New for qualifier: The draw will be limited to 32 with a FIC. No
doubles. The top 8 players in each division (12-18) from the final NC
April standings list will be automatically endorsed to the Southern
Closed. The endorsed players may choose to play in the Qualifier in the
same age division in which they wish to compete at the Southern Closed.

FORMAT FOR PLAY
The draw will be limited to 32 with a FIC. No doubles.
*Singles draws will be limited to 32 players in each age division.
*Selection will be based on a NC standings list.
*The top 32 (age eligible) applicants will be selected from that list. Your credit card will not be charged until the selection has been made.
*A player must enter the Qualifier in the age division he wants to be considered for selection to the Southern Closed.
A player may play in only one (1) age division.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS
Players must meet USTA NORTH CAROLINA, STA, and USTA residency requirements:
a. Players must be domiciled in a resident of the State of North Carolina for 30 days preceding the start of the Tar Heel Qualifier. In addition, they shall be citizens of the U.S. resident aliens in possession of a valid alien registration receipt card, or aliens who have resided in the United States continuously for more than one year and are members of the families of persons in the diplomatic or consular corps.
b. To make sure all competitors playing in the Tar Heel Qualifier are eligible to compete in the Southern Closed, and possibly the National Championships if chosen, the NCTA will require that all players must have a copy of a Birth Certificate or Green Card on file in the NCTA office for proof of citizenship before play begins in the Tar Heel Qualifier.*
A player may submit the information by fax (336-852-7334), email (jane@nctennis.com) or regular mail. A list of those competitors who already have submitted their proof of residency to the STA office will not have to do so to the NCTA office. The list of NC competitors who have already fulfilled that requirement will be posted on the Tar Heel Qualifier website and www.nctennis.com, thus not having to do so again

BIRTH CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENT
You are required to have a copy of your birth certificate/green card on file with the North Carolina Tennis Association by the Qualifier deadline, May 15, 2011. If player not listed, then birth certificate copy must be submitted to Gwenda@nctennis.com, faxed 336-852-7334, or mailed to 2709 Henry Street, Greensboro, 27405

Remember, all Boys and Girls 10's and 12's entering the Tar Heel Qualifier will need to view this presentation before the child is eligible to play.

MEDICAL RELEASE
All Players must bring a signed Medical Release/Tennis Parent form http://www.nctennis.com/pdffiles/MedicalReleaseForm.pdf to registration or they will not be able to participate in the event.

SEEDING
Seeding information will be taken from the most current
available North Carolina Standings list( May 16th). NC seeding criteria-

SELECTION
A final standings list for selection to the Tar Heel Qualifier will be
run on May 16. This will include all eligible tournament play up until
this date. Look for the Qualifier Selection list in the afternoon of May
18.

ENTRY FEES
Entry Fees will not be refunded after the tournament entry
deadline.

Refund policy
After the online entry deadline, a refund is not required to be returned to the player.

NCTA Rain Policy for all sanctioned tournaments
1. Any division where play has begun – no refund
2. Any division where no play has begun – a partial refund after deductions for actual
expenses.
3. All completed scores must be reported. Incomplete matches are recorded as
ABANDONED( match started but Referee decided not to complete) matches.
Matches never started are recorded as UNPLAYED
4. No tournament may reschedule without the approval of the S & S Committee.
5. If a tournament is unable to complete the tournament within the sanctioned dates,
no extensions will be allowed. The tournament will be over.
6. It is at the discretion of the tournament committee if the entire tournament is canceled
due to inclement weather.
7. Check the alternate scoring methods for inclement weather
8. Notify the NCTA of a cancellation.
9. Head tax is charged for any divisions where play has begun
