 |
This tournament is in
honor of Dr. Cherif Hechema. Dr. Hechema was a longtime surgeon at Berea
hospital. One of his life's passions apart from family and helping others
was his love of tennis.
He was an avid tennis player and was a most beloved man to
everyone who knew him. The ultimate gentleman! He is missed terribly by
family and friends. This tournament is to honor him by promoting tennis
which he loved and to raise money for scholarships for Mountain Tennis
Circuit junior tennis players. |

Special Notice
IMPORTANT: walkovers, withdrawals, & defaults
In an effort to promote match play and completing tournaments, players will be
assigned
one (1) suspension point for any match that is not played due to walkover,
withdrawal, or
default. While players do sustain serious injuries or do become ill, players
pulling out of
tournaments have become too common. The intent of this is to promote play, not
punish
players. Players are not suspended until they receive 10 total suspension

Rules Changes for 2011
The following rules changes will take place for all USTA Sanctioned Tournaments beginning in 2011:
- All matches with a full 3rd set receive a 10 minute break before starting the 3rd set (this change gives the 10 minute break to the 18 & Under Division)
- When playing a Match Tiebreak in Lieu of the 3rd Set, players receive a 3 minute break where coaching is allowed.
Suggestions: The players should stay on the court during this time and coaching should be done through the fence. Note: If a player is not back to the court and ready to play after the 3 minute break, the player is defaulted from the match (this stems from the rule that if you are late after a break, the player receives a game penalty) Note: If a player goes to the restroom during the break, he/she is granted extra time. The opponent can receive coaching throughout the entire break.
- A player loses the point if he/she reverses the call from “out” to “in”.
Note: You lose the point if you call a ball “out”, then realize the ball was “in”.
