FINAL SEEDING
I've made the final seeding so unless you have some heavy ammunition to convince me to change, it's done. I've filled the doubles event with 16 teams, no more, so check to see if you're in then figure out who your partner is and let me know. Seeding for doubles and other pairings are set. Please contact me at 208-602-1493 or robert@robertsterk.com if you have any questions.

Notes
Thank you to all the players and volunteers who helped run a
successful tournament. To Bob Ewing for putting the player packets
together, to Helena Goodwin and Carla Latta for helping at the
player party, to Peggy Cooper for helping me run the desk, to all
the staff at Boise Racquet & Swim Club for helping the players
play their best. Thank you Bill Jung, Mike Buckingham and Kay
Bennett for officiating matches.Thank you Jake Putnam for taking
photos and putting them onto the website.Thank you players for all
your patience and willingness to do what I asked you to do. Thank
you players for accepting the fact that things don't always run
smoothly and that your flexibility is appreciated. Thank you
seeding committee members for helping me with the seeding and
following the rules properly. Thank you Barbara Chandler for
sharing your stories about Perry Jones and to give me hope that
tournament directing is a great thing to do. Thank you sponsors
including Rod Hyatt at the Residence Inn by Marriott and Ann Majors
at Candlewood Suites for accommodating players. Lastly, thank you
Bill McGrath, GM at BRSC, for allowing me to be a part of the
tournament while you take on all the concerns. It's not an easy
job. Congratulations to all the players who placed in the
tournament including Sal Castillo, (gold singles), Fred Robinson
(silver singles), Chris Bennett (bronze singles), Andrew Stanley
and Rollin Rhone (gold doubles), Leslie Curtis and Bruce Van Maanen
(silver doubles), Fred Robinson and Tom Smith (bronze doubles).
Also congratulations to the fourth, fifth and sixth place
(consolation winners - fifth and consolation finalists - sixth)
winners: fourth singles - Carl Sechen, fifth singles - Miguel
Phelps, sixth singles - Mark Sullivan, fourth doubles - Tim Butorac
and Tom Rettenmaier, fifth doubles - Mel Collazo and Ray Pascale,
sixth doubles - Miguel Phelps and Bob Levine. Thanks you Paul
Brooks from the Jeweler's Bench for engraving the silver plates for
4th - 6th place. Please visit our official website at
ustamens55nationalindoor.blogspot.com for complete results, photos
and player profiles. Players - I hope you will all come back again
next year and bring a few friends. The date hasn't been set yet but
should be sometime again in the Spring. The ITF World Championships
is scheduled for Feb. 21 - 26, 2011 so we're hoping to find a date
after this hopefully around Spring Break (end of March) so that
there are plenty of courts available for use for the tournament.
During Spring Break all member blocks are held out. On a personal
note I would like to say that I learned a lot during this
tournament. I am excited and energized from the ideas/suggestions
provided from the players. I am looking forward to attending the
National Tournament Directors Workshop in Feb. 2011 to enhance my
knowledge about seeding players, scheduling matches and learning
the strengths and weaknesses of various consolation formats. I am
leaning towards using a layer consolation format for 2010 but will
need to research it more to make sure it will work and if the other
TD's in the 55s are using it. Have a great year and good luck in
the rest of the national tournaments. Tennis - It's What I Do.
Sincerely, Robert Sterk USPTA Pro 1 and assistant tournament
director P.S. Please check your scores to make sure I recorded them
correctly. If you would like to comment about the tournament please
email me at robert@robertsterk.com or Bill McGrath at
bmcgrath@boisetennis.com. Again thanks for playing and I'll see you
in 2011.
