| 2010 Palmetto Format to Change |
| The format for the 2010 Palmetto will change. Singles draws in the 10's will be limited to the top 32 players in the S. C. standings who enter the tournament. Singles draws in the 12's, 14's, 16's & 18's will be limited to the top 64 players in the S. C. standings who enter the tournament. Consideration will be given to players with a high sectional or national ranking who do not otherwise qualify. No qualifying rounds will be played, and there will be no Belton Classic. Doubles draws will be limited to 16 teams in the 10's and 32 teams in the 12's, 14's, 16's & 18's. A feed-in consolation will be played in all age divisions, including the 10's. Play will begin on Saturday, June 5 and continue through Friday, June 11 (although the 10's are scheduled to be completed by Wednesday, June 9).

| 2010 Tournament and School Schedules |
| Due to the date the Palmetto must be finished to qualify players for the Southern Closed Championships, the 2010 Palmetto will begin on Saturday, June 5 and continue through Friday, June 11. Most schools throughout the state will be out by June 4, but some coastal schools will still be in session the week of June 7. Any seniors involved with graduation on Saturday, June 5 or Sunday, June 6 should e-mail rexmaynard@statecom.net.

| 2010 Palmetto to feature 8's and 10's exhibitions using Quick Start format |
| The 2010 tournament will feature one day exhibition tournaments for the 8-and-under on 36' Quick Start courts and 10-and-under on 60' Quick Start courts. Both will be played on Saturday, June 5.

| Mallory Cecil In U. S. Open Draw |
| Mallory Cecil of Inman, a former Palmetto champion, who won the NCAA Women's Championships this spring has received a wild card into the 2009 U. S. Open. Good luck Mallory!

| Carter Wins Southern & National Championships |
| Haley Carter of Hilton Head was unable to play in the 2009 Palmetto due to injury. Following the Palmetto Haley won both the Southern 14's and USTA National 14's singles championships! Congratulations Haley!

| Eight Singles Champions Crowned Friday Morning |
| Singles championship matches were played Friday morning in the 12's, 14's, 16's & 18's boy and girls divisions. The results of the finals were:
Girls' 12: #1 seed Katie Williams (Columbia) def. #2 seed Ellie Halbauer (Daniel Island) 6-3, 6-1
Boys' 12: #1 seed Adam Elliget (Summerville) def. #2 seed Hampton Drake (Columbia) 6-2, 6-1
Girls' 14: #1 seed Ansley Speaks (Simpsonville) def. #2 seed Ivey Welborn (Anderson) 6-3, 6-1
Boys' 14: #2 seed Jared Woodson (Hilton Head Island) def. #4 seed Brent Lett (Elgin) 6-3, 6-2
Girls' 16: #1 seed Leyla Erkan (Hilton Head Island) def. #2 seed Meghan Blevins (N. Charleston) 7-5, 6-1
Boys' 16: #3 seed Benjamin Barnette (Spartanburg) def. #2 seed Kyle Koch (Irmo) 6-4, 6-2
Girls' 18: #2 seed Molly O'Koniewski (Hilton Head Island) def. #1 seed Alex Martin (Mt. Pleasant) 6-3, 6-0
Boys' 18: #3 seed Chris Cox (Myrtle Beach) def. undseed Joel Cook (Easley) 7-6(4), 6-4
Several players added to previous Palmetto singles titles. Adam Elliget won his second title, having won the 10's in 2007. Elliget also won this year's 12's doubles championship. Molly O'Koniewski won her second straight singles title, having won the Girls' 16 in 2008. Chip Cox also won his second Palmetto singles title, having won the Boys' 14 in 2007. Jared Woodson was a multiple winner, with both a singles and doubles title this year.

| Sporstmanship Award Winners |
| Three sportsmanship awards were presented during the awards ceremony following the completion of the singles finals Friday. Hampton Drake of Columbia received the Matthew Strange Memorial Sportsmanship Award for the Boys' 12 division. Melanie Allen of Mount Pleasant received the Kimberly Hampton Memorial Sportsmanship Award for the Girls' 12 division. Stephanie Cox from Myrtle Beach received the Malloy Evans Memorial Sportsmanship Award, given to a player who competes in the older age divisions. Cox played in the Girls' 18, and earlier this week was also named the recipient of the 2009 Dunlop Scholarship.

| Carey Washington named 2009 Honorary Chairman |
| Dr. Carey Washington of Columbia was honored with the 2009 Honorary Chairman Award at the Palmetto Fling. Washington has been an official at the Palmetto since 1994, and has served as the tournament's Chief Umpire the past seven years.

| Cox wins Dunlop Scholarship |
| Stephanie Cox of Myrtle Beach was named the recipient of the 2009 Dunlop Scholarship. The award was presented at the annual 18's party Monday night. Andy Johnston, Associate Athletic Director for Football Operations at Clemson University, was the guest speaker. The scholarship was presented by Hunter Hines, Dunlop Sales Manager for the Eastern Region. Cox is a top ranked tennis player and student who will be attending Wofford College in Spartanburg, S. C. this fall.

| The Palmetto is a South Carolina Level 1 and Southern Level 3 tournament. It is the state's junior qualifying tournament, and players must be a resident of the state of South Carolina to compete in the Palmetto.
