Matches will be played at Arlington Tennis Center. CHECK DRAWS CAREFULLY.
PRACTICE COURTS. Practice courts are available at area public parks, on a non-reservation, first come, first served basis. NO PRACTICE COURTS WILL BE AVAILABLE AT ATC.

Welcome
Welcome to the Arlington Tennis Association's August 22-23, Junior Singles Open. The ATA is a non-profit organization. It was founded and organized specifically to foster local, national, and/or international amateur tennis competition. Its mission is to educate amateurs and promote interest in the sport of tennis, threby developing qualities of good sportsmanship, self-relieance, leadership, and the competitive spirit by means of tennis clinics, tournaments and other projects. The Arlington Tennis Association will be the tournament at Arlington Tennis Center.

Advance Planning
Just a few FYIs for our guests: *Water is not placed on courts at ATC!!! Free cups are available in the proshop, and a large commercial ice machine and water fountain (with jug spout) available on the northwest patio. Players are also welcome to purchase water, fountain drinks, sports drinks and juices in the proshop, or they may bring their own water jugs on court. *Spectators are not allowed on the courts at any time. *No pets are allowed in the ATC pro shop/building or fenced areas. *Alcoholic beverages are prohibited on the property (including the parking lot). Match Check In
Players must check in with the site directors at the scheduled sites for EACH MATCH at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled match times. Checking in for the Tournament is not checking in for matches, so remember to see the site director prior to EACH MATCH. Remember, players must check themselves in for matches (not parents, coaches, etc.).

Match Times
Players are responsible for obtaining their own match times from the website (prior to tournament) or from the site directors (once tournament begins). If in doubt, ASK.

USTA Membership Required
USTA MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED
PLEASE CHECK YOUR USTA MEMBER INFORMATION PRIOR TO REGISTRATION. Your USTA membership info is the official data downloaded and used by the tournament staff. Check that your USTA membership is current, your address and telephone numbers are correct and that you have listed alternate (work and/or mobile) phone numbers. Email addresses are also helpful. THE TOURNAMENT STAFF MAY NEED ALTERNATE METHODS OF CONTACTING YOU REGARDING TOURNAMENT ISSUES, so please check your home/cell numbers and email address carefully BEFORE you register

Formats and Schedule of Play
Singles only. Boys' and Girls' 12-18s are best of three (two out of three) sets, ad scoring, with a regular tie-breaks for the first and second sets. Two-minute set breaks between the first and second sets are mandatory. Boys' and Girls' 10s are 8-game pro sets, no-ad scoring, with a regular tie-break at 8-all. All divisions have a mandatory first match loser consolation. All players will have at least two matches (except in rare situations when a division has only two players). Play for Boys' and Girls' 12-18s are scheduled to begin Saturday and conclude Sunday. Boys' and Girls' 10s will play on Saturday, only. Check draws for times.

USTA Officials
All officials for our tournament are USTA certified. Each site will have at least one USTA roving umpire. The Referee, will be stationed at the main site, Arlington Tennis Center. Court Monitors may be used by the officials to assist with on court issues

Point Penalty System/"Junior Know the Rules"
The Point Penalty System will be strictly enforced at all sites. JUNIOR PLAYERS: REMEMBER, THERE IS NO LONGER A GRACE PERIOD FOR FIRST MATCHES. ALSO, FOR ANY MATCH, IF A COURT IS OPEN AND YOUR MATCH IS CALLED, BUT YOU HAVE NOT CHECKED IN AT THE SITE DESK / ARE NOT PRESENT, THE CLOCK STARTS. See the link for "Junior Know the Rules."

Withdrawing
WITHDRAWING: PLAYERS WHO ARE WITHDRAWING MUST DO SO IN WRITING VIA EMAIL TO arlingtontennis@yahoo.com, and a valid reason must be specified. (Note, if you withdraw after 6:00 PM Thursday, August 21st, your email may not be read timely, so you will ALSO need to contact ATA via phone.) Players who must withdraw are asked to do so as early as possible. Beginning Friday morning, the tournament staff will attempt to contact players whose opponents have withdrawn late (after 6:00 PM Thursday). However, we cannot guarantee success in every situation. PENALTIES: Penalties may be assessed for players who withdraw after the deadline and after draws are posted. See "Know the Rules" on the Texas Section website and information in player letter for specific penalties regarding withdrawals. In addition, players who do not show for matches (first or subsequent rounds) will also receive penalty points.

Texas Weather
Rain in August in Texas is not expected. However, we have a "rain game plan" in place that may involve changes in match dates and times. We will update the website. If in doubt, be prepared to play at your regularly scheduled time and location (or hurry up and wait to play). Also, in the event of rain, alternative scoring may be used, and we may play late into the evening on Sunday. Please be prepared to stay late on Sunday, if necessary.

Dress Code
We ask that all players and spectators wear traditional attire appropriate for a family tennis environment. All guests (players and spectators) are required to wear shirts (including ladies wearing shirts over sports bras), and no bare stomachs / abdomens. Shorts and skirts should be of an appropriate length, as well. Thank you for your cooperation.

No Selection Process. All registered players will be selected.
Entry to this tournament is open to all USTA members. Entries must be submitted by Sunday, August 9, 2009 11:59:00 PM Central Time. Only USTA members can register online if available.
