David M. Carmines
David McGee Carmines (1977-2001) was born and raised on Hilton Head Island, the son of Brian and Gloria Carmines and brother to Andrew Carmines, the owners of Hudson’s Seafood Restaurant. He loved the outdoors and focused that passion on mountain climbing,
mountain biking, hunting, fishing, skiing and kayaking. He was a kayak instructor/tour guide at Outside Hilton Head and a graduate of the University of the South with a B.S. in Geology.
David was diagnosed with third stage non-testicular germ cell carcinoma in December 1998 and courageously fought this disease for the next 30 months. He died at the M.D. Anderson Oncology Center
in Houston, Texas on March 10, 2001.
He was truly an exemplary young man much beloved by his family and friends with whom he kept in close contact by e-mail throughout his fight with cancer, always closing his letters with "Keep the Faith."
All proceeds from this tournament go to benefit The American Cancer Society and The Island Recreation Associations Scholarship Fund.
