WITHDRAWAL, WALKOVER AND RETIREMENT PROCEDURE FOR CHAMPIONSHIP MAJOR ZONES
Over the last 12 months there, has been a significant increase in withdrawals, walkovers, and retirements. Players registered for an event who withdraw from that event after Wednesday (three days prior to the start of the event) at 12:00 PM (noon), or who provide a walkover to their opponent, or who retire from a match, will be assessed two points in the suspension point system. If a player reaches 10 points within a 12-month period, the player will be eligible for suspension and will have the right to an appeal process. During this appeal process, which only happens if a player reaches 10 points, the player will be given the opportunity to explain and/or provide any additional information/evidence. No information/evidence will be considered or accepted prior to the player reaching 10 points. If what is provided is deemed to have merit and the withdrawal, walkover, or retirement is determined to be justified, the committee will immediately remove the points for that particular incident and the suspension will be nullified. Please know that the objective of this procedure is not to penalize players, but to track withdrawals, walkovers, and retirements. There is a maximum of two points that can be assessed to a player during a particular tournament, even in the case when the player retires from a match in progress, then awards a walkover to an opponent in the next match.

SPORTSMANSHIP WINNER: PARIS PIPILLION
Congratulations to PARIS PIPILLION (G14 Blanco) from Rosharon TX, for winning the Sportsmanship award at the Arlington Tennis Center Championship Major Zone this weekend! PARIS displayed outstanding sportsmanship on and offer the court, appreciation for her opponents' play, as well as respect for her own efforts. PARIS was personable with other players, polite with the officials and the tournament and facility staff. she was always timely for matches and took responsibility for her own tournament participation (checking in, reporting scores, etc.) instead of relying on parents or others. It was clear PARIS and her family were here to play and have FUN! PARIS will receive a week-long camp scholarship to the John Newcombe's Tennis Ranch. Congratulations, PARIS!!
Honorable Mentions: Zachary Miller (B14 Blanco): Zachary complimented his opponent, thanked tournament staff and was a good sport win or lose. Evan Nguyen (B12 Rojo): Evan had a great attitude, win or lose, and he supported his friends in their matches even though he had lost.

SATURDAY RESULTS / SUNDAY MATCHES
Thank you for your great patience during the weather delays today. We understand your frustration, but most were extremely accepting of the situation.
No matches were completed on Saturday, so there are sadly no results available. However, matches in progress will resume at the point they point they were suspended.
Sunday weather: Known weather delays will be posted on this website between 6:30-7:00 AM Sunday morning.
Sunday matches will be Main Draw only. Consolation has been cancelled. All matches will be first to four games, win by two games, for the first two sets (set tiebreak at four games all) and a 10-point tie-break in lieu of third set. All matches will be no ad scoring. Matches will move quickly, so players should be on time and ready to play.
Withdrawals: If you are unable to complete the tournament, please call the Referee tomorrow after 7:00 AM at Arlington Tennis Center, 817-459-6163. Out of respect for opponents, please do not 'no show.'
Thank you again for your patience today.

MATCH STATUS UPDATE, SATURDAY, 8/11: 4:00 PM
Regrettably, as of 4:00 PM, matches have been cancelled for today at all seven sites. Any matches in progress that were suspended need to make sure that scores were recorded with the site directors for when the matches resume. Additionally, USTA Texas has authorized that Consolation be cancelled. Only Main Draw will be scheduled for tomorrow.
An update schedule will be published this evening by 10:00 PM. Court status for Sunday will be published between 6:30 and 7:00 AM Sunday morning. Reminder that this tournament cannot be cancelled until tomorrow, by regulation.
Thanks to everyone for your patience today.

GENERAL UPDATE, SATURDAY, 8/11: 3:30 PM
If you are at a site other than Arlington Tennis Center, please ask your site director for the phone number to that site. The numbers are personal cell numbers and will not be published on this web site. If you are away from the site, please call ATC, and we will be happy to provide you with the number.
~ If you are playing at ATC, please call at 4:00 PM for status update. Play will not begin at ATC before 4:30 PM. ~ If you are playing at an alternate site, again, please call that site. Conditions change quickly, and the latest information is best obtained directly from the official and site director.
Note: We do not recommend using the USTA app for information. Please go to the tournament website, and remember to refresh your browser, or close and reopen the web page, so that you have access to the latest updates. Thanks!
As a reminder, court conditions vary between the seven sites. Please check with the official at your site for status updates and report times. Additionally, each site has a phone number for you to call. Please check with your site director for that number. And, if you drive to your site, and you do not see a site director or official on the court, it is likely because it is raining, and they may be under a tent or in their car, or inside a building (if there is one associated with the courts). Do know that EVERY site has a site director and official present, and they are not leaving until the tournament is done for the day. But, they will likely not be standing outside in the rain.
Regarding general status: Future radar indicates some clearing later this afternoon. Of course, some sites may be able to start sooner if courts dry, so please check with your individual official and site director regarding conditions at your specific site. A decision will be made by 5:00 PM whether or not to cancel for the day if matches cannot resume. BY REGULATION, THE TOURNAMENT WILL NOT BE CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER UNTIL SUNDAY.

SPECTATOR POLICY
ATTENTION ALL SPECTATORS (INCLUDES PARENTS, COACHES, RELATIVES, FRIENDS, ETC.) In an effort to promote a more enjoyable and fair experience for all, the following policy is in immediate force and effect, and shall be diligently and stringently enforced. USTA Texas has implemented a “ZERO TOLERANCE” policy for improper behavior.
1. Any attempt by a spectator to speak to the official in an abusive or disrespectful manner regarding a line call or other ruling during match play shall be cause for immediate removal from the playing area and, if warranted, from the premises.
2. Any spectator behavior deemed unacceptable towards a player, other spectator or tournament staff member shall be cause for immediate removal from the playing area or the entire premises. If said behavior is directed towards a player, either before, during or after a tournament, it shall result in an automatic and immediate suspension of that spectator’s right to attend USTA Texas tournaments, for a period of time to be determined by the USTA Texas Discipline and Grievance Committee.
3. Refusal to adhere to a removal request shall trigger immediate enforcement of the point penalty system against the player with whom the spectator is involved (per point penalty system regulations), including possible immediate default from the tournament.
4. The On-Site Official is the SOLE judge regarding unacceptable behavior. Inappropriate umpire/spectator communication, whether it be about a ruling or any other facet of a tennis event is prohibited while a match is in progress. Being a parent, coach, etc. does not endow special privileges. With the only exception of the right to remove their own child from competition at any time, a parent or coach is merely a spectator.
|
EXCESSIVE OVERRULE GUIDELINES
The USTA Texas Officials Committee, along with the Competitive Department, has established a guideline in reference to excessive overrules as clarified in the Friend at Court. This guideline states: "Once a player has been overruled for a second time in a match, the player will be cautioned that after another overrule, the player will be penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct under the point penalty system."

ADVANCE PLANNING: READ!!!
READ! All information below applies to players AND spectators, including dress code. - Alcoholic Beverages: Alcoholic Beverages are prohibited on the property (including the parking lot) at ATC. If alternate sites are used for this event, it is the responsibility of the player's guests (players are not age eligible for alcoholic beverages) to learn in advance the facility's policy regarding alcoholic beverages, and abide by those policies. - Cell Phones: Please note that players and guests may NOT use cell phones on court or at the tournament desk. Turn them OFF. Spectators who use cell phones on the property should be mindful of whether their conversations interfere with tournament play (in which case, they will be asked to leave the area or turn the phone off) or normal business operations of the facility. Thank you for your cooperation. - Dress Code: We require that players and spectators wear traditional attire appropriate for a family tennis environment. All guests (players and spectators) are required to wear shirts (including ladies wearing shirts over sports bras), with no bare stomachs / abdomens. Shorts and skirts should be of an appropriate length, as well. As determined by the Tournament Director, Referee and/or site managers, attire with offensive, suggestive or disrespectful images or language will not be allowed. Players and spectators who do not dress appropriately will be required to adjust their attire. The dress code applies to players and spectators at all sites throughout the tournament. - Pets: Pets are prohibited in the Arlington Tennis Center proshop/building and inside the fenced areas around the courts. If alternate locations are used for the event, it is the player's responsibility to learn in advance any regulations at specific facilities regarding pets, and to abide by those policies. - Smoking: Smoking is prohibited in the Arlington Tennis Center proshop/building and inside the fenced areas around the courts. If alternate locations are used for the event, it is the responsibility of age eligible players (or their guests) to learn in advance the smoking policies at specific facilities regarding smoking, and to abide by those policies. - Spectators: We welcome spectators for this event! However, spectators are not allowed on court at any time, at any site. - Water: Water coolers are not placed on court at Arlington Tennis Center or on alternate site courts. If playing at Arlington Tennis Center, a commercial ice machine and water fountain are located on the west patio and players and guests are also welcome to purchase bottled water, fountain drinks, sports drinks and juices in the proshop. In addition, while water will not be on court at the court at alternate sites, all alternate sites have ice and water (some have additional concession for purchase) available for players at those sites. Regardless, Players are encouraged to bring their own water to their matches. - Video/Photography: Personal videotaping and photography are not allowed at any site, except persons who are videotaping 'their' player (parent, guardian or person designated by the parent/guardian) from a non-distracting position off court OR persons designated by the tournament staff to photograph or videotape aspects of the tournament for use in print or on public websites. Personal videotaping equipment may not be affixed to any facility property, including fencing. The umpire or tournament staff may direct the videotaping or photography to stop if it is determined that the action is interfering or distracting to either player. This policy is in effect for ALL sites at this tournament.
|
PREPARE FOR YOUR MATCH!
- Draws will be posted by 10:00 AM, Tuesday, August 7. - Before, during and after your match, HYDRATE! Texas weather can be HOT, especially in August. - At the high schools, a limited amount of ice and water will be available for players who need to refill their drinking jugs. The ice and water is NOT for filling coolers. However, players are expected to bring their own jugs of water to their matches. - Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen! - Check your site location carefully! A common mistake is for players to show up at the wrong site for their first match. Know where and when you play. - Arrive at least 20-30 minutes before your first scheduled match time on Saturday and Sunday to check in. Reminder, reciting the Player Oath is an important part of the check in process, which requires additional time. - For subsequent matches, arrive at least 10-15 minutes early to check in.

FIRST OFF CONSOLATION (FOC)
All Challengers and CMZs use the First Off Consolation Format. This format will show as Single Elimination on the tournament homepage, but all players are guaranteed two matches. This format eliminates MOST “maybe matches,” and almost every player in consolation will play their first consolation match on Saturday. How does it work? Players who lose in the main draw will be fed into the consolation draw in the order that they come off the court (i.e. the first player to come off the court will go on line one, the sixth player to come off the court will go on line six). This format ensures more players playing on Saturday and an overall better tournament. Note: TDM does not allow adjustments to the line numbers in Consolation to accommodate FOC. The order players are placed in Consolation will not tie with the numbers on the on-line draws.
|
SITE ABBREVIATIONS
Site
abbreviations will be posted on the draws. Detailed information on sites will
be posted when the draws are posted, including addresses.
|
WARM-UP COURTS
- Warm-up
courts will NOT be available at match locations once matches begin
each day.
- Courts
will not be open at high schools sites before 7:30 AM each day. Courts WILL be open at UTA and ATC each day by 7:15 AM. - Never
assume that because a court is free momentarily that it is available for
you to warm up. - See Area Tennis Map
for locations and addresses for matches and area warm-up courts.

Wilson US Open balls are the
official balls of this tournament. Three new balls will be provided for each match, with three additional new balls provided for players who split sets in the main draw Semis for Finals (if format remains best of three full sets and is not altered for weather issues).

Note: Championship Major Zones will not be cancelled due to weather until the second day (Sunday). Players should expect to play up to three singles matches in one day.

|
SPORTSMANSHIP AMBASSADORS
USTA Texas tournaments utilize Sports Ambassadors to assist in identifying both outstanding and poor sportsmanship displayed by players and / or persons associated with players. Sports Ambassadors are not easily identifiable, as they will appear to be regular spectators. However, their observations carry great weight with regard to issues (good or bad) reported to the Section.
|
COURT MONITORS
Court monitors may be used at some sites to assist players, as well as assist officials, in monitoring aspects of the tournaments. Court monitors may time warm-ups, call foot faults, over rule bad calls (balls called out that were in) and stop play to secure a USTA official if a situation warrants action through the point penalty system.
