What are Wilson Nights?
Wilson Nights are fun, non-elimination match play evening events
for orange, green, and yellow ball juniors. Many of the best junior
players in the metroplex began their competitive career by falling in
love with the sport while attending Wilson Night.
The remaining 2017 Wilson Nights
will be offered on October 14, October 20, and November 10. You'll
also want to play in the "Halloween Spooktacular" Doubles Night on
October 27th--it's "anything goes" for teams, so teams can be
adult/adult, junior/junior, or adult/junior.
This particular Saturday, October 14th Wilson Night is a "Special Edition" and will start at 5:30 PM. (Usually check-in is at 6:45
PM and play is from 7:00-10:15 PM on Friday evenings). All competitors will play singles,
doubles, enjoy all you can eat snacks, drinks, and sno cones, and
there's always a big Grand Prize drawing to end the night. Orange ball players will play from 5:30 to 9:00 PM and will have a prize drawing at 9:00 PM. Green and yellow ball players will play from 5:30-10:00 PM with a prize drawing at 10:15 PM.
You'll
want to get signed up ASAP as only the first 36 players will be
accepted into the event. If you are 14 years or younger you are eligible
to play--if you are 15 years old or older you are too old for Wilson
Nights but you are invited to volunteer as a "helper".
Beginner through Challenger tournament players will
love the non-elimination format--and we'll make sure you play other
players at your level. Most kids play 3 sets of singles and 1 or 2 sets
of doubles each Wilson Night...and we'll also make sure that everyone
wins a couple and loses a couple of matches! Please note that no Champs
or Super Champs are eligible to participate--although Champs and Supers
are welcome to volunteer at Wilson Nights!
Since this is not a USTA sanctioned event, you can sign up to play in any age group and ball color. For example, players 11 and older who
would like to be placed in the green ball division should enter in the
12's and email sally10s@me.com requesting to be put in the green ball
division--it's no problem. Likewise, players in the 10's wanting to play yellow ball should enter their 10's division and we'll move you to the 12's yellow ball event.
Remember, the first 36 players for
each event are "in" and we'll keep a waiting list for overflow players,
so get signed up right away! You can register online at usta.com (a usta
number or free usta account number is required for online registration)
or you can register by emailing Sally Frame at sally10s@me.com and pay
at check-in. If the event is cancelled due to bad weather no refunds
will be issued, but you will be given a "credit" for any 2017 Wilson
Night.
All matches will be played at Lakes Tennis Academy, 4000 Legacy Drive, Frisco 75034 (972) 668-5253.
Don't worry about signing up with a
doubles partner. Most players will find a partner during the event and
we'll help everyone else get paired up. The $35 entry fee includes
everything--singles, doubles, balls, snacks, drinks, and sno cones.
PS--although
everyone will sign up in an "event" like B12 singles, we are going to
pair players up for matches based on their skill level. So--12's may
play 14's, boys and girls may play each other, etc. So don't worry if you don't see a bunch of entrants in your age group and ball color.
And--as
mentioned above--you do not need to be a USTA member to play this event.
If you don't have a USTA membership you can get a FREE USTA account and
use that number to register online. To get a free account, go to
usta.com and click on "tennislink" in the upper right hand corner.
Scroll down to the middle of the page where you'll see a red banner that
says "Don't Have a USTA account?. Click on this and then follow the
instructions. It's not as complicated as it sounds!
If you have any problems getting signed up, simply email Sally Frame at sally10s@me.com for help. Ditto for any questions.
