Draws now posted
Good afternoon Players! Welcome to the second annual RMTC Adult Spring Open! We are delighted to have such a great showing for this tournament! At present, there are 102 players registered for the event in singles, doubles, or both! Our goal at Rocky Mountain Tennis Center is to provide a great competitive experience for all players. Some years ago, we came to the realization that the sport of tennis could do a better job in providing more competitive opportunity for players by looking at different formats that simply “single elimination” tournament draws. It seemed that the same strong players played the most matches, and that there were opportunities being missed for the whole field. We decided to try a new format that followed the strongest competitive events in the world, the ATP World Tour Finals and the WTA Finals. The concept is to take the top 8 players in the world on the men’s and women’s tours, divide each field into round robin groups of 4 players each where everyone plays everyone in pool play. The top 2 finishers from each group then advance to a “gold” semi-final, and then the winners advance to an ultimate tournament finals. Following this example, but expanding on it, all RMTC weekend series tournaments for both adults and juniors use this format regardless of the number of entrants. Our goal is to provide equal number of competitive experiences for each player in their respective events, so we start by taking the total number of players and, after seeding the group, dividing them into groups of 3, 4, or 5 for round robin pool play. If there are five players or fewer, this creates one round robin where each player will play every other player to determine the champion of that event. We divide the players into groups or pools when we have six players or more. Regardless of the number of groups, we always start with round robins where the top finishers advance to a “platinum” or “gold” tournament semi-final or finals, and the players who place lower in their round robins advance to silver or bronze semi-finals or finals. With events of six or greater, each player will compete in pool play as well as a semi-final and/or final. These are physically demanding and challenging events to be sure, and all players should be ready to play a lot of tennis! (Especially those who are playing singles AND doubles!!) This weekend, we will be starting with singles round robin pool play Saturday morning through the mid afternoon. We will start some doubles events around noon as singles pool play is concluding. For players in smaller fields, this may be a one-day event. Players of larger events should be prepared to play Sunday morning for your playoffs. The schedules for Saturday and Sunday have been posted, but we will be populating Sunday playoffs at the conclusion of play Saturday evening once we have all results. We will try to get the Sunday draws filled by 9pm Saturday evening, but please be patient as we tally results, which we must do by hand. We would like to wish you all the very best of luck as you compete this weekend! Welcome to RMTC! (PLEASE BE AWARE THAT AT THIS POINT ALL MATCHES WILL BE PLAYED AT CU SOUTH!)
Regards, Tournament Staff

Tournament Format
All draws will utilize Round Robin pool formats that lead to non-elimination playoff advancement for all players regardless of results where there are 6 players or more. We plan to complete all round robin play on Saturday throughout the day and then, for larger draws, playoffs will be played Sunday morning at CU South Campus (South Campus Tennis Complex in Google maps). All players should plan to be available for matches throughout the day on Saturday, as well as playoff matches for larger draws on Sunday morning as scheduled.
The purpose of this format is to provide players with an equal amount of competitive experiences to help promote their player development.
