We are very excited to announce NIKE is sponsoring the 2017 USTA National Spring Team Championships with Shirts for the Players. Each player will receive 4 Shirts to be worn during team matches. The color of the shirt worn for each match will be decided by the tournament committee. Select "more info" below to see the color and styles, tanks are for the girls and short sleeve shirts are for the boys. We suggest bringing shorts or skirts in white and black for team uniformity. To further the team camaraderie, the players' families or guests may want to wear apparel in similar colors. Any other team spirit items are encouraged such as bandanas, hats, pompoms, etc. but please no noisemakers.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Below are a few items of importance. Please scroll through the entire website as most of your questions can be answered here. --This is a Level 1 National Team Championship. --The Tournament will include 4 Singles Matches and 4 Doubles Matches along with training and education --There are 16 Boys teams and 16 Girls Teams --There are 32 competitors per age division --A player must be present all five days to participate in this event. --Mandatory Registration is Friday evening. --The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams shall receive Gold, Silver and Bronze Medallions. --You will register as an individual. --Participants will make and pay for their own travel arrangements, and will require chaperons. --At this time, there will not be transportation provided from the host hotel. (This may change; but, please understand minors must be accompanied by an adult if transportation from the hotel is provided.) --You may only register for one age division. --You need only register for singles. Although the system allows doubles entry, we will not make selections for doubles because all competitors will play doubles. --Coaches are only responsible for on court activities and team building exercises. Coaches are not chaperons and will not provide transportation. Even if a player's regular coach is at the event, that coach may be assigned to a team which does not include that specific player. That coach will be occupied with his team and cannot be responsible for his regular student during the event. --No housing is provided for players. --Wednesday, March 8th, you can use a 5:00 completion as a guideline for travel purposes. We try to finish as early as possible on the last day but weather will determine what that time will be.

HOST HOTEL - RENAISSANCE MOBILE REVIEW PLAZA HOTEL
Remember that The Renaissance Mobile Riverview Plaza Hotel is the host hotel where most of the players
will stay. Because this is a Team
Tournament, the host hotel will be a big part of the experience. Reservations are on a first come first serve
basis and the hotel will fill quickly. Other
amenities at the hotel specifically for the Spring Team Tennis Championships
Tournament include:

at the hotel
- Registration will be at the Riverview hotel on
Friday night
- The hotel will have special nights for
the players and parents
- A special Game Zone room is set up all
week for the players

TOURNAMENT REGISTRATION AND SELECTION PROCESS
EVENT PROFILE: Beginning in 2017, this site is hosting the USTA National Spring Team Championships for Boys’ and Girls' 18, 16 and 14 Divisions The 12s will be at a separate site and different date.
ELIGIBILITY: Amateur players who meet the U.S. citizenship or residency requirements (see Section 4), the USTA age eligibility requirements, and membership requirements (current USTA membership) may enter.
ENTRY DEADLINE: The entry deadline for the USTA National Spring Team Championships is Thursday, February 09, 2017 11:59 AM (Eastern Time). This is one minute before NOON EASTERN TIME; it will still be daylight when registration closes. The selection process starts immediately once registration closes, so it is not possible to add late entries to the selection process even if you missed the deadline by a few minutes.
ENTRY PROCESS: Players must enter using TennisLink. When tournaments are asked to give prior written approval to enter the USTA National Spring Team Championships and a concurrent tournament, that discretion continues to lie with the tournament. This tournament will not approve concurrent entries.
TOURNAMENT SELECTION AND ALTERNATES: Separate USTA National Spring Team Championships shall be held for boys and girls. The TennisLink selection system shall accept 32 players from each division (BG 18-14) into the draw as follows: • Up to 4 wild cards using the same process established for USTA National Championships (See Wildcards section below). Wildcards will not be selected during the automated process. Wildcards will be selected at a later date. It will appear there are openings for alternates, but we cannot fill these spots until the wildcard decisions are made. • The remaining players from most recently published National Standings List from each age division, provided they have submitted timely entries, in the order in which their names appear.
Online Notification: Main draw players and alternates can view lists published to the TennisLink Tournament Home Page no later than 3 days after the entries close. All players accepted by the TennisLink system will be sent a confirmation email that includes as part of the text of the email the USTA Release and Waiver Form (please email, tennismobile@gmail.com or fax, (251) 208-5195, in this completed waiver). Any accepted player whose credit card was unable to be charged will also be sent an email notifying them of the problem with the credit card and instructing them to contact the tournament to make arrangements for payment.
Ordered Alternate List. The Tournament Committee shall prepare an alternate list for each division of those players with timely entries not accepted into the draw in the order in which their names appear on the same National Standings List used to accept players into the draw. Late entrants shall be placed on the alternate list in the order received after timely entries. Late entries received at the same time shall be ordered by lot. The Alternate List will be published to the TennisLink Tournament Home Page as soon as possible and no later than 5 days after entries close. The order of players on an Alternate List is NOT to be changed if a new National Standings List is published. Before this list is published, you can see your order by going to the "Selection Process" tab and selecting your division. Find the first yellow dot and count down until you find your name, that is your order number.
On-Site Alternates. On-site alternates are those players on the alternate list who have come to the tournament site to be a last-minute replacement for a withdrawing player. The Tournament Committee shall establish a procedure for checking in on-site alternates and instruct players on the tournament website. The procedure shall include the following: • On each day in which alternates may be accepted into a draw, any alternate desiring admittance must check in and be ready for play no later than 15 minutes prior to the first scheduled match time of the event for which they are an alternate. • The order of the alternates is based on the original Alternate List published by the tournament, not a more recent National Standings List, and not in the order in which the players check in. On-Site Alternates may be admitted into the tournament to fill in for a player unable to play a match. The original player if able may continue in the original spot on the team in subsequent matches. If the player is withdrawing from the tournament and not just a match, the onsite alternate will stay in that spot on the team.
TOURNAMENT ADMINISTRATION: This is a unique event in that it is a team format with individual registration. Because of that, the tournament software is not capable of providing the usual formats for displaying Selection Lists and Alternates Lists by division. We have to go to a lot of extra work to create and post the reports you expect to see. The first few days after selections are made, we will be diligently working on this; so please be patient with us. Email is the preferred and most times only method of accepted communication. Emails are answered in the order received. If you send more than one email on the same subject, you will get repsonses to all emails in order. When emailing, always expect a response. That is your confirmation your email has been received and any necessary actions will be taken. If your email prompts a change that should be seen online, just know all changes require multiple steps and removal and uploading of reports. Usually, the response to email is made after the action has been taken on our end. While we are capable of making mistakes, give us 24 hours before you expect to see it online. If you do not see the change within a couple of days, please email and if necessary call.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT AND STANDARDIZED SCHEDULE OF PLAY
Draw Format and Standardized Tournament Schedule of Play: The draw format shall be a Compass Draw of 16 teams and teams shall play one round per day. The standardized schedule will incorporate time for training and education for the tournament participants.
Seeding: The draws shall not be seeded.
Match Formats: All singles matches shall be the best of 3 Tiebreak Sets. All doubles match formats shall be a 6-game set with a 7-Point Tiebreak at 5 games all. Match Formats are annually subject to change and approval by the Junior Competition Committee. Refer to Table 2 of The USTA Junior National Tournament, Ranking, and Sanctioning Regulations.
Team Line-ups: The team line-up for each Team Match must be submitted to the Tournament Committee prior to the Team Match at a time to be determined by the Tournament Committee. No changes to the team line-up may be made except for illness, injury, or personal circumstances and are subject to the approval of the Tournament Committee. A player, for reason of illness, injury or personal circumstances, who does not play their a match or retires from a match is eligible to play a subsequent match on the same day. • Singles Line-up: The #1 waterfalled players in each division will play each other; the #2 waterfalled players in each division will play each other. • Doubles Line-up - BG18, 16, and 14 Tournament: The two players from each division (18/16/14) shall be paired into doubles teams and shall compete against the players of their own division on the opposing team.
Team Match. Each Team Match shall consist of three doubles matches followed by six singles matches. Each team will receive one point for each singles win and the team that wins a majority of the doubles matches receives one point.
Determining the Winner of a Team Match: Each singles counts for one point. The team winning the majority of doubles matches will get one point. The total possible points earned in a Team Match is 7 points. The team that wins the most points wins the Team Match. If the Team Match score is tied because, for example inclement weather does not permit all matches to be played or a match goes un-played because playoff a double walkover, the coach of each tied team shall designate two players from their team to play a doubles 10-Point Match Tiebreak to determine the Team Match Winner.
Reporting Scores and Match Score Sheet: Chair offiicials will report scores for chaired matches. Players will report scores for unchaired matches immediately upon completion of an individual match. After the completion of a team match, the coaches of both teams must sign both score sheets at the tournament desk.
During-Tournament Alternate Procedure if Team Unable to Field Full Roster. If at any time a player at the tournament is unable to compete in one or more matches, the Coach shall notify the Tournament Director. The Tournament Director shall work with the Coach to find an alternate to substitute in for the player. If an alternate substitutes in for one or more matches, the alternate shall play in the singles and/or doubles lineups in the last position and all other players or teams shall move up a position. The matches played will count toward the team score and will count for junior national ranking. In singles, if an alternate is not found and a default occurs in the #1 position in an age division, the default shall occur in the #2 singles position in the age division and the #2 players shall move up a position. In doubles, if an alternate is not found and a default occurs in, the default shall occur in the last doubles position and all other teams shall move up a position. A player, for reason of illness, injury or personal circumstances, or default due to lateness, who does not play a match, is eligible to play another match on the same day and on a subsequent day. A player who is defaulted for reasons other than lateness is not permitted to play in a subsequent match.
Court Assignments: The team matches shall have 6 assigned courts in close proximity to ensure accessibility for the Coaches. The Officials will have the balls. Matches shall start with doubles and follow with singles. All doubles matches will be chaired. Most singles matches will be roved. Singles matches will be assigned specific courts in order to place signage.

WATER-FALLING PLAYERS ONTO TEAMS
Composition of Teams: Each team shall be comprised of 2 players from each of the 18, 16, and 14 divisions. Players shall be water-falled onto teams as described below. There will be 16 Boys teams (32 Boys in Each Division, 96 Boys Total) and 16 Girls teams (32 Girls in Each Division, 92 Girls Total). Timing of Waterfall: No earlier than three days before the start of the tournament, the Tournament Committee shall waterfall players as described below. Water-falling Method: Players in each division shall be waterfalled onto 16 teams so as to distribute the players among the teams as set forth below. Before water-falling, players shall be ordered based on the order in which their names appear on the on the most recently published National Standings List, except that the players ranked in the top 1000 ATP/top 500 WTA shall be placed on the top of the list in rank order, followed by players ranked in the top 100 ITF in rank order.

THE CODE
GUIDELINES FOR JUDGING CODE VIOLATIONS: The Point Penalty System will be in effect during the 2016 USTA National Spring Team Championships. Violation of the Code of Conduct will result in the following: 1st Offense - Loss of Point and Suspension Points 2nd Offense - Loss of Game and Suspension Points 3rd Offense - Default and Suspension Points Additional suspension points may be given for various serious offenses. Audible Obscenity: Any commonly known obscene language that is heard by an official will be penalized. Verbal rules apply to any language. We have officials on site that are fluent in many languages. Obscene Gesture: Any gestures commonly understood to be obscene will be penalized. Ball Abuse: Any ball hit violently or in anger after the point ends will be penalized. Abuse of Equipment: Racquets may not be slid, kicked, or thrown to the court. Violent contact with the fence, greenery, net, benches, bags or anything on or around the court will be penalized. Unsportsmanlike Conduct: Any action that could be considered as unsportsmanlike in nature will be penalized. Time Delays: Intentional delaying the game will be penalized. Players must play within the time constraints as identified below. Failure to do so falls under the Point Penalty System. Players have 20 seconds between points and 90 seconds on the changeovers; servers will serve at a reasonable pace and receiver will play to the pace of the server. There will be no rest period during the changeover between the first and second games of any set. Players will have a two-minute rest period between sets except after the second set in a best of three set match there is a mandatory 10-minute rest period during which coaching is allowed. If a Match Tiebreak is played in lieu of a third set, there is a mandatory 3-minute break during which coaching is allowed on court. Coaching: Coaching by National Team Coaches is allowed on Changeovers. Penalties for Lateness: These penalties begin at the time the match is scheduled. 5:00 minutes or less Loss of Toss plus 1 game 5:01 – 10:00 minutes Loss of Toss plus 2 games 10:01 – 15:00 minutes Loss of Toss plus 3 games More than 15:00 minutes Default

DRESS CODE:
Team Uniforms will be determined at a later date. When a uniform is not worn, the following dress code should be adhered to during your time on site. Players not meeting the dress code may be asked to change while on site. For the Boys:
* Any T-shirts worn must be plain or tennis related
* No underwear should be visible above waist band or below hemline
* Shirts must be worn at all times
* Shorts must be worn appropriately above pelvic bones
* Sleeveless shirts are acceptable if made that way - no cutoffs
For the Girls:
* Any T-shirts must be plain or tennis related
* Compression shorts must be fully
covered with a skirt or dress. Also known as "shorties" or "booty
shorts" are not allowed to be worn without being covered
* Skirts and shorts must be worn appropriately above the pelvic bones
* The bottom of your Shirt must touch
the top of your Skirt or Short while standing upright-shoulders back; this means do not roll down your skirts or shorts. Trust us when we tell
you that your equipment (skirt or short) is not working properly during
play when rolled

WILDCARD UPDATES 2/23/17:
Wildcard Decisions have been made and players have been notified via email by the Jr. Comp. USTA Office. All four wildcards in each division have been granted, leaving no open spots for alternates at this time. Once the wildcard acceptances have been confirmed by USTA, the remaning four spots in each division will be updated with the wildcard names.
If you are a confirmed wildcard recipient, please call 251-510-0113 to pay the entry fee. This is a the Tournament Directors private mobile office phone. We will be getting many calls so you can leave your credit card information on the voicemail. I will process the payment and send you a text when done. I do not keep any credit card info on file. Please include the card number, exp date, 3(or 4) digit code, and the zip code of the billing address.

MANDATORY TOURNAMENT CHECK IN:
ALL PLAYERS MUST BE PHYSICALLY ON SITE AT THE HOST HOTEL BY 8:00 PM FRIDAY, MARCH 3rd, IN ORDER TO BE PLACED ON A TEAM. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS! In theory, the tournament schedule is to have a practice day and matches start on Suday. We now have the flexibility to start matches earlier if it looks like weather might be an issue. In order to start matches early, possibly even Saturday morning, players have to be here Friday night. There will be no exceptions to this Mandatory Check In. We understand some of you might have weather delays in your area preventing you from getting here on time. We strongly suggest you make your travel plans with delays in mind. If we have onsite alternates or alternates within driving distance (three hours or less); we will not be able to save a spot for you because the team is dependent on all positions. You should make your plans with the Friday Mandatory checkin time as your guide.
ALTERNATES - We strongly suggest you pay close attention to your position on the alternates list. If you can come on a moments notice, please email the tournament director of your availability. If you are the first or second alternate, you may want to consider being onsite close to the end of mandatory registration. No matter where you are on the alternates list, if you are in driving distance, you may want to be onsite close to the end of mandatory registration. Any open spots at 8:00 pm will first go to an onsite alternate based on where they fall on the alternates list if more than one is present. If there are no onsite alternates, we will start calling alternates in order from the list.

WITHDRAWALS:
Withdrawal Prior to Entry Deadline:
Go to the Tournament website under "EDIT REGISTRATION" on the right
side of your screen and click "Withdraw". From there you can withdraw. If you
do not know your Confirmation #, then click "Locate Confirmation" just
below "Withdraw." We cannot withdraw you, you must do this yourself.
You will lose the entry fee if you do not withdraw online before
registration closes.
Withdrawal After Entry Deadline:
Immediately contact the tournament to withdraw from the tournament. You
must fax or email your withdrawal. DO NOT call to withdraw. The email
is tennismobile@gmail.com and the fax is (251) 208-5195. If the player is not playing because of an injury or illness, the player shall provide written verification of the injury or illness from a medical professional no later than the last scheduled day of the tournament. There are No
refunds. All withdrawals for reasons other than illness, injury, and personal circumstances or withdrawals for any reason without the proper written notification are actually defaults and Code of Conduct Reports should be completed for each defaulting player even though an alternate may take that defaulting player’s place in the draw. Defaulting during the tournament:
You must see the trainer and get approval from the Head Referee at the
Mobile Tennis Center. Do not tell just anyone at the desk and think you have
properly defaulted. Unless you speak to the Head Referee in person, it
will count as a "No Show." WE WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY WITHDRAWALS OVER THE
PHONE!
If the player is not playing because of an injury or illness, the
player shall provide written verification of the injury or illness from
a medical professional no later than the last scheduled day of the
tournament OR a visit with the onsite trainer will suffice.
Replacement of Withdrawing Players Before the Waterfall is Done: The Tournament Committee shall replace a player who withdraws, is defaulted, or is otherwise removed from the draw before the waterfall is done with the highest remaining alternate for the division. Replacement of Withdrawing Players After the Draw is Done: The waterfall shall not be re-done if a player withdraws. The Tournament Committee shall replace a player who withdraws, is defaulted, or is otherwise removed from the draw after the waterfall is done, but before the player’s first match with the next highest remaining alternate for the division, unless the Tournament Committee determines the player may remain in the draw. (See USTA Regulation III.B.5.d. and Section 15 - 4 IV.E.6. These regulations allow for exceptions when a player has been defaulted for lateness, or has to withdraw from their first round for injury, illness or personal circumstance.) If the withdrawal is by the player waterfalled into the #1 position on a team, the lower-waterfalled player on the team shall be moved into the #1 position and the alternate shall take the #2 position.

WILD CARD APPLICATION, DEADLINE & CRITERIA - Click "more info" for the online application
Wild Card Committee. Wild Cards are granted for the USTA National Championships by the USTA Wild Card Committee. The Committee consists of the following persons: • Coordinator of National Junior Rankings • Chair of the Junior Competition Committee • Director of Junior Competition • Director of Player Development, or the Director’s Designee • Tournament Director (if there is more than one Tournament Director of a tournament, together the Tournament Directors have one vote) It is highly recommended that Tournament Directors not engage in any lengthy conversations with players, parents, or coaches about the possibility of a player receiving a Wild Card. A Tournament Director should attempt to only educate a player on the Wild Card eligibility and application process. Applications. Requests for Wild Cards are submitted by players using an online application. A link to the application is published on the USTA website and shall be published by the tournament to its website: http://www.usta.com/Youth-Tennis/Junior-Competition/NtlChampWildCards/ Wild Card applicants do not require Sectional Endorsement, but the application must be approved by the Sectional office. Note: Applications MUST be filed separately for each National Championship and received by the appropriate deadline (see below). Deadlines. Applications must be received no later than five days after the entry deadline for the tournament for which the Wild Card is sought. Earlier application is strongly encouraged. Criteria. Written criteria for awarding Wild Cards is published in Table 4 of the USTA Junior National Tournament, Ranking, and Sanctioning Regulations. The criteria is as follows: • No player that is under suspension by the USTA, a Sectional Association, the ITF, the ITA, the WTA, or the ATP may be awarded a wild card. • No player who has a national standing below the standing of the first alternate may be awarded a wild card unless, in the opinion of the Wild Card Committee, the player will improve the overall strength of field of the tournament. • No player who submits a late wild card application may be considered. Timely entries into the tournament are recommended, but are not required. • A player with an established record in international, professional, or collegiate competition may be considered. • A player whose ability to qualify has been affected by injury, illness, or other personal circumstance may be considered. • A player’s rating may be considered. • A player with a high standing in a younger age division of the event may be considered. • A player with a high standing in the division of the event who was not endorsed by their Sectional Association may be considered, provided that the player has been recommended for a wild card by their Sectional Association. • A player who has been recommended for a wild card by the USTA National Coaching Staff may be considered. • USTA Player Development may hold invitational wild card playoff competitions for players identified jointly by NJTLs and USTA Player Development to which the best finishers shall be awarded wild cards into the Boys’ and Girls’ 14 and 12 Divisions of the USTA National Clay Court Championships and The USTA National Championships. A total of 4 wild cards will be available for this purpose in the Boys’ and Girls’ 12 Divisions. A total of 2 wild cards will be available for this purpose in the Boys’ and Girls’ 14 Divisions. • USTA Player Development may hold an invitational wild card playoff competition to which the winner shall be awarded a wild card, provided that the Junior Competition Committee has approved the competition in advance. Awarding of Wild Cards. The Wild Card Committee will meet as soon as is practicable after the wild card deadline to select from among the Wild Card applicants. The USTA Junior Competition Department will coordinate distribution of applications and the meeting time. As soon as Wild Card players are selected, they are notified by the USTA Junior Competition Department. Once given approval by the USTA Junior Competition Department, the Tournament Director should also attempt to make contact with the player to receive the entry fee and gather additional information that is required.

PRO SHOP:
We do have a Fully Stocked Pro Shop at the Mobile Tennis Center. The
tournament discount is 20% off regular priced clothing, shoes, racquets,
and bags and 10% off most sale merchandise.

STRINGER:
There will be two Experienced Stringers at the Mobile Tennis Center
during the tournament. Cost with your own string is $18. We also have a
large string inventory if you do not have your own.

TRAINER:
One trainer will be on site at the Mobile Tennis Center during matches.
By law, trainers are not allowed to distribute any medicine. Please
bring your own Tylenol, Advil, Sinus Medicine, Epi Pens, etc. The trainer will be at the Mobile Tennis Center at least one hour before the start of practice or matches each day. Please be advised that many players need the attention of the trainer each morning and proper planning of you time is required so that you are not late for your match. Please note: The trainer has a lot of ground to cover with on-court issues and many people to see off the court. They are not there to give massages due to limited time and lack of privacy; but, they will advise you on various techniques you or your parents can do. Also, there is a science to applying Kinesiology Tape due to a specific diagnosis. Without the diagnosis from a doctor, the trainers will not apply this type tape. If you require this type tape due to a pre-existing injury, please learn how to tape before the tournament.

will stay. Because this is a Team
Tournament, the host hotel will be a big part of the experience. Reservations are on a first come first serve
basis and the hotel will fill quickly. The Renaissance has 175 and The Battle House hotel (their sister hotel) has 30 rooms both with a $116
