*** DOUBLES *** DOUBLES *** DOUBLES ***
We love having doubles events and the players seem to enjoy them also. Doubles are very important to your high school or college's success. Doubles points are huge in ensuring your team will win, in USTA Team, school or university competition. College coaches are huge on good doubles players, since that is always the first point of a team match. WE URGE EVERYONE TO PLAY DOUBLES, they are a lot of fun.

*** GENERAL SCHEDULE *** PARENTS READ PLEASE ***
Matches and play begin each day at 9 AM and may continue to 6 PM. This is always a BIG tournament. We begin the tournament on Monday and attempt to finish the tournament in three days, four at the most, by Thursday afternoon. Weather is the most difficult factor to overcome, so we allow lots of leeway in order to get all the matches completed. If weather is bad we may run into Friday morning.
PARENTS - We seem to be getting a lot of questions about scheduling. Sorry, this is not a soccer or football game, so 22 players do not start and stop at a given time. Individual matches may last from 1 hour to 3 hours. We may have 25 players in one age group, which could take 4 days to complete, and 4 players in another, which may be completed in one day. We will not know who will play when until after registration is closed at 11 PM Friday, and we know how many participants are in each division. Then we can start putting together the draws. Thanks.

TOURNAMENT LOCATION
The tournament will be played on the varsity courts at Olentangy High School, address listed above. We are directly behind the OSU Family Med Center and Kroger's Super Center on State Route 23, eight miles due north of the I-270 outerbelt. Many things for an athlete is available for purchase at Kroger should you forget something.
|
MATCH FORMAT, TEE SHIRTS AND TROPHIES
We will play best of three sets for the win, with advantage (regular) scoring. We will use a MATCH TIE BREAK in place of a full third set, if players split the first 2 sets. Match tie break uses the same rules as a set tie break - except the winner is the first player to 10 points, by a 2 point margin. Every registered player will receive a tee shirt for participating in the tourny. Trophies will be awarded to first second and third places, there will be a third place play off match. Back draw champion will also receive a trophy.

TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR AND STRINGING
The tournament Director is Arnie Jones, all his contact information is listed above. This tournament is a fund raiser for the Olentangy Boys and Girls Tennis Teams for their upcoming seasons. All proceeds are going to help the teams with uniforms, balls and court maintenance. Alann Leinwohl will be available for stringing should you need assistance with your racket.

REGISTRATION AND SANCTIONED EVENTS
Please register early !!! No one will be charged until the day before the tournament starts, so do it as soon as possible. AXIOM - More players registered early, attracts more players, making the tournament all the better for everyone. The junior singles and doubles are both sanctioned for this event. You will receive USTA Midwest points for each match won, which will help determine, and raise, each players current ranking.

RAIN DELAY PROCEDURE
Please arrive 15 minutes early for your scheduled match as per the USTA policy. If it looks there is a potential for rain, call 614-296-7695 and listen to the message. We are constantly watching the weather services and will update the situation constantly, with the weather and time stated on the announcement, and postponement times listed in the announcement if there is a delay. As a players match time nears, assume the match is still on until you hear otherwise. There is no Wi-Fi at the courts, we run over to Krogers to update, and we will try and update this page as much as possible.

FLUIDS AND TOWELS
This is a summer tournament, so bring lots of water or sports drink with you. We believe the rule of thumb is to have a gallon of fluids with you on court per match. Parents - that is A GALLON PER MATCH !!! We suggest you buy a gallon jug, or 2, with one for back up, and keep them full of ice and ready to hand to your players at a moments notice. Bring your own towels with you, 2 to 4 or more, when it is hot players can sweat profusely. The tournament does not supply any, you are responsible.
|
EQUIPMENT AND GEAR
Each player is responsible for their own equipment and gear. You should have a minimum of at least one strung racket as a back up. If a string breaks, you are responsible for having a second racket to continue play. The tournament has no extras to give you. You are responsible for your own gear: wraps, grips, string, first aid kits, Band Aids, extra tee shirts, blister pads, etc. The tournament has none to provide to you.
