SPORTSMANSHIP WINNER: DEVIN CALHOUN!
Congratulations to Devin Calhoun (B16 Blu) from Waxahachie, for winning the Sportsmanship award at the Arlington Tennis Center Championship Major Zone this weekend! Devin displayed outstanding sportsmanship on and offer the court, appreciation for his opponents' play, as well as respect for his own efforts. Devin was personable with other players, polite with the officials and the tournament and facility staff. He was always timely for matches and took responsibility for his own tournament participation (checking in, reporting scores, etc.) instead of relying on parents or others. Devin will receive a week-long camp scholarship to the John Newcombe's Tennis Ranch. Congratulations, Devin!!

2. Any spectator behavior deemed unacceptable towards a player, other spectator or tournament staff member shall be cause for immediate removal from the playing area or the entire premises. ADVANCE PLANNING: READ!!!
READ! All information below applies to players AND spectators, including dress code. - Alcoholic Beverages: Alcoholic Beverages are prohibited on the property (including the parking lot) at ATC. If alternate sites are used for this event, it is the responsibility of the player's guests (players are not age eligible for alcoholic beverages) to learn in advance the facility's policy regarding alcoholic beverages, and abide by those policies. - Cell Phones: Please note that players and guests may NOT use cell phones on court or at the tournament desk. Turn them OFF. Spectators who use cell phones on the property should be mindful of whether their conversations interfere with tournament play (in which case, they will be asked to leave the area or turn the phone off) or normal business operations of the facility. Thank you for your cooperation. - Dress Code: We require that players and spectators wear traditional attire appropriate for a family tennis environment. All guests (players and spectators) are required to wear shirts (including ladies wearing shirts over sports bras), with no bare stomachs / abdomens. Shorts and skirts should be of an appropriate length, as well. As determined by the Tournament Director, Referee and/or site managers, attire with offensive, suggestive or disrespectful images or language will not be allowed. Players and spectators who do not dress appropriately will be required to adjust their attire. The dress code applies to players and spectators at all sites throughout the tournament. - Pets: Pets are prohibited in the Arlington Tennis Center proshop/building and inside the fenced areas around the courts. If alternate locations are used for the event, it is the player's responsibility to learn in advance any regulations at specific facilities regarding pets, and to abide by those policies. - Smoking: Smoking is prohibited in the Arlington Tennis Center proshop/building and inside the fenced areas around the courts. If alternate locations are used for the event, it is the responsibility of age eligible players (or their guests) to learn in advance the smoking policies at specific facilities regarding smoking, and to abide by those policies. - Spectators: We welcome spectators for this event! However, spectators are not allowed on court at any time, at any site. - Water: Water coolers are not placed on court at Arlington Tennis Center or on alternate site courts. If playing at Arlington Tennis Center, a commercial ice machine and water fountain are located on the west patio and players and guests are also welcome to purchase bottled water, fountain drinks, sports drinks and juices in the proshop. In addition, while water will not be on court at the court at alternate sites, all alternate sites have ice and water (some have additional concession for purchase) available for players at those sites. Regardless, Players are encouraged to bring their own water to their matches. - Video/Photography: Personal videotaping and photography are not allowed at any site, except persons who are videotaping 'their' player (parent, guardian or person designated by the parent/guardian) from a non-distracting position off court OR persons designated by the tournament staff to photograph or videotape aspects of the tournament for use in print or on public websites. Personal videotaping equipment may not be affixed to any facility property, including fencing. The umpire or tournament staff may direct the videotaping or photography to stop if it is determined that the action is interfering or distracting to either player. This policy is in effect for ALL sites at this tournament.
|
PREPARE FOR YOUR MATCH!
- Draws will be posted by 8:00 AM, Tuesday, September 6. - Before, during and after your match, HYDRATE! Texas weather can be HOT, even in September. - At the high schools, a limited amount of ice and water will be available for players who need to refill their drinking jugs. The ice and water is NOT for filling coolers. However, players are expected to bring their own jugs of water to their matches. - Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen! - Check your site location carefully! A common mistake is for players to show up at the wrong site for their first match. Know where and when you play. - Arrive at least 20-30 minutes before your first scheduled match time on Saturday and Sunday to check in. Reminder, reciting the Player Oath is an important part of the check in process, which requires additional time. - For subsequent matches, arrive at least 10-15 minutes early to check in.

FIRST OFF CONSOLATION (FOC)
All Challengers and CMZs use the First Off Consolation Format. This format will show as Single Elimination on the tournament homepage, but all players are guaranteed two matches. This format eliminates MOST “maybe matches,” and almost every player in consolation will play their first consolation match on Saturday. How does it work? Players who lose in the main draw will be fed into the consolation draw in the order that they come off the court (i.e. the first player to come off the court will go on line one, the sixth player to come off the court will go on line six). This new format ensures more players playing on Saturday and an overall better tournament. Note: TDM does not allow adjustments to the line numbers in Consolation to accommodate FOC. The order players are placed in Consolation will not tie with the numbers on the on-line draws.
|
SITE ABBREVIATIONS
Site
abbreviations will be posted on the draws. Detailed information on sites will
be posted when the draws are posted, including addresses.
|
WARM-UP COURTS
- Warm-up
courts will NOT be available at match locations once matches begin
each day.
- Courts
will not be open at high schools sites before 7:30 AM each day. Courts WILL be open at UTA and ATC each day by 7:15 AM. - Never
assume that because a court is free momentarily that it is available for
you to warm up. - See Area Tennis Map
for locations and addresses for matches and area warm-up courts.

The USTA Texas Officials Committee, along with the Competitive Department, has established a guideline in reference to excessive overrules as clarified in the Friend at Court. This guideline states: "Once a player has been overruled for a second time in a match, the player will be cautioned that after another overrule, the player will be penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct under the point penalty system."
|
SPORTSMANSHIP AMBASSADORS
USTA Texas tournaments utilize Sports Ambassadors to assist in identifying both outstanding and poor sportsmanship displayed by players and / or persons associated with players. Sports Ambassadors are not easily identifiable, as they will appear to be regular spectators. However, their observations carry great weight with regard to issues (good or bad) reported to the Section.
|
COURT MONITORS
Court monitors may be used at some sites to assist players, as well as assist officials, in monitoring aspects of the tournaments. Court monitors may time warm-ups, call foot faults, over rule bad calls (balls called out that were in) and stop play to secure a USTA official if a situation warrants action through the point penalty system.
