Parent Education Forum Presentation
Quite a few years ago, USTA North Carolina led the way with an online PowerPoint we called the Parent Education Forum. It began to give parents a better understanding of what a tennis parent needs to do, and not do, as it relates to their child and tennis. We also sprinkled some rules to help cut down on some confusion at the tournament sites. Since that time the USTA Southern Section has formed a Sportsmanship Task force to deal with the many issues that come our way that unfortunately involve parents much more than our kids. The video you are asked to watch is an expansion of what you have seen in previous years. It has changed and more information has been added to it that deals directly with sportsmanship. Therefore, in an effort to promote and encourage good sportsmanship among junior players and parents, USTA North Carolina and the USTA Southern Junior Competition Committee are asking all parents to visit the link below and view the presentation before having their child participate in any sanctioned tournament.

ATTENTION SPECTATORS
Be advised that we will have a ZERO tolerance policy for abusive or unsportsmanlike behavior from spectators or parents. Parents will have been advised of the required behavior by signing the “Tennis Parent” statement which is required before a player can begin play. This signature may be considered the initial request to desist improper behavior, therefore, any official may at any time request an offending individual (or individuals) to immediately leave the tournament area.

Seeding Process
The process is as follows: 1) Southern provides the latest selection list with the top 32 applicants in rank order. 2) This applicant list of 32 players is then waterfalled. 3) Each group of 16 players is then seeded. Players in Lower Standing are taken into consideration based on the seeding calculator.
|
Format and Scoring
32 players will be selected for each event (see Selection Process headline) and then be split into two Draws of 16 players using the Waterfall System for selection (see Waterfall Headline), with a Full Feed In Consolation through the Quarters and 3/4 playoff. The Feed-In Consolation will play through the Quarterfinals. The best two out of three sets with a 10 point match tiebreak in lieu of a third set will be played for all Boys and Girls 12s - 18s

New Event for 11 and Under Boys and Girls
11 and Under Boys and Girls As you are well aware, there has been an 11 & Under pilot ongoing to help with the development of our players, by initiating a 11& under Green division. A benchmark was added to slow down the race to 12 & Under yellow, again, for developmental purposes for the player. As of March 1, 2016, the USTA Southern Junior Competition Committee is taking the next step. The “benchmark” will be eliminated. Therefore, the following will take place: - For events with deadlines past March 1, you will be able to enter 10 & Under Orange, 11 & Under Green, or 12 & Under Yellow as long as player is age eligible. - Player will be able to enter two divisions ( 11 & Under as well as 10 & Under, 12 & under as well as 11 & Under etc) - Selection will be done as all selections for 12 thru 18’s. Please see process listed on the home page below - Bottom line, if you enter two divisions, you will be considered for the upper division first and if not selected, then the lower division. You must play where selected. - Selections will be based on the player’s standing. - For those entering 11 & Under Green, the 12& Under standing will be used for selection until April 1st. At that time an 11 & Under standing/ranking will be used. - Draw size will be 16 - Now the choice will be left up to the coach/parent/player on what division to enter. Please remember though, selection will be based on standings.

Waterfall System for splitting Competitors

|
Selection Process
Draws will be limited to 32. The top 32 players applying will be selected by the USTA Southern Section office, from the latest USTA Southern standing list -- 28 players from the age group will be selected and up to 4 players from the younger age group that have a top 40 standing and are not in the selected 28.
