A special thanks to the players (over 440 of you!), parents and coaches who were in Belton and Anderson for this year's Palmetto Championships. We appreciate your support, good sportsmanship, excellent play and understanding and cooperation with any glitches caused by the inclement weather Sunday and the revised schedule. Congratulations to our players who qualified for the Southern Closed Championships. Good luck as you represent South Carolina in this 9-state championship!

We appreciate the support and cooperation of the City of Belton, City of Andrson, Anderson County and USTA South Carolina. Thanks also to our staff, led by Tournament Referee Kelly Hesketh, over 30 USTA Certified Officials, our operations staff and the many volunteers who helped. Everyone worked long hours to insure the tournament was completed on schedule in spite of losing a day to rain. Everyone played a BIG part in the success of the 2016 Palmetto Championships!

SPORTSMANSHIP AWARDS
The Palmetto Championships recognized 3 players for outstanding sportsmanship during this year's tournament. Omar Williams of Spartanburg, a finalist in the Boy's 18U, received the Malloy Evans Memorial Sportsmanship Award. Two sportsmanship awards were presented in the 12U divisions. Ian Rasheed of Mt. Pleasant, the champion in the Boy's 12U received the Matthew Strange Memorial Sportsmanship Award and Annie Jennings of Greenville, the 3rd place finisher in the Girl's 12U, received the Kimberly Hampton Memorial Sportsmanship Award. Congratulations Omar, Ian and Annie. Remember, GREAT SPORTS MAKE A SPORT GREAT!

PALMETTO ENDS TUESDAY
The 2016 Palmetto Championships, presented by Chick-fil-A of Anderson, finished on schedule Tuesday with doubles finals and singles semifinals and finals. See the Media Report on this website for all finals results. Several players added to Palmetto singles titles won earlier....Spencer Brown won the Boy's 18U for his 7th singles title, Lauren Joch won the Girl's 18U for her 3rd consecutive singles title and Ashe Ray won the Boy's 14U for his second title.

Jeffrey Dayton Receives 2016 Dunlop Scholarship
Jeffrey Dayton of Murrells Inlet was named the 2016 recipient of the Dunlop Scholarship during the Welcome Block Party at the Belton Tennis Center. Dayton has been ranked in the top 10 in South Carolina the past 8 years. He achieved a #1 state ranking in the Boy's 14U in 2012. He has represented South Carolina in Southern Cup competition and received several sportsmanship awards. Jeffrey played #1 singles and doubles for St. James High School for 6 years, earning team MVP and All Region honors all 6 years. He was the Region Player of the Year his last 4 years. He is a top student with a high class rank and GPA and has severed as the secretary of the National Honor Society the past 3 years. Jeffrey stated in his application essay: "I am truly blessed that tennis came into my life and hope to be able to share my passion for tennis with other children." He will attend Anderson University when he will play for the men's tennis team and major in Biochemistry. The scholarship has been presented by Dunlop as part of the Palmetto Championships since 1992.

Almost 400 Matches Played Saturday
Saturday is a record day for the Palmetto Championships, with 395 matches scheduled to be played on 48 courts throughout Belton and Anderson. A special thanks to everyone for your cooperation to help make this possible!

The Chick-fil-A Palmetto Championships has been played in
Belton, S. C. since 1957 and is the South Carolina junior
qualifying tournament. Players must play in the Palmetto
Championships to advance to the Southern Closed Championships.
Championships are determined in 5 age divisions for both boys and
girls in singles and doubles. The Palmetto is closed to residents
of South Carolina only.

Sportsmanship Responsibilities: All parents are encouraged complete the "Parenting My Champion" sportsmanship video before their player participates in this level tournament.

Players are selected manually by the tournament director after the close of registration.
Entry to this tournament is open to specified residents only. Entries must be submitted by Friday, May 20, 2016 11:59:00 PM Eastern Time. Only USTA members can register online if available.
