This weeks top questions?
Monday question 1. What USTA Midwest Standings List is used for seeding? All Elevated USTA Midwest use the Standings List for Seeding on the Tuesday before the tournament begins. Tuesday question 2, Who makes the draw? Is the draw made by hand? All Elevated USTA Midwest Tournament draws are made by USTA Employees in the Indianapolis office. The draw is made by automatically using TDM software by getting the seeds numbered and then pushing a button to make the draw. Wednesday question 3, How come some players only play one match on Saturday? In order to be fair in the later rounds to all the players the draw progresses with the same Order of Play as if the draw was full. Thursday question 4, Why are there only 8 seeds? Seeding is done in increments of 2, 4, 8, 16 and 32. Since there are 47 players in the draw there are only 8 seeds. Friday question 5. Why do are so many Chicago District players playing each other in the first round? The tournament software is programmed automatically to separate the players by District. If more than half the draw consists of players from the same district then some of those players will play each other in the first round. Saturday question 6.

Four Sportsmanship Initiatives
1. We will ask all players at check in to read and if they are in agreement to sign the USTA Junior Player Oath. "I recognize that tennis is a sport that places the responsibility for fair play on me. I promise to abide by the rules of the game, which require me to give the benefit of the doubt to my opponent. At all times I shall strive to compete with the true spirit of sportsmanship, recognizing that my behavior on the court is a direct reflection of my character. Whether this match ends with my victory or defeat, I promise to conduct myself in a way that honors my opponents, my team, those who support me, and the game of tennis.” 2. We will ask each player after every match to evaluate the sportsmanship of their opponent and themselves. 3. At check in each parent will be asked to fill out a Sportsmanship Survey. 4. USTA Midwest Sportsmanship Award will be given to a participant at the conclusion of the tournament. In addition the Tournament Sportsmanship winner will receive a Joe Shade (JoeShade.com).
