New Event for 11 and Under Boys and Girls
PLEASE NOTE: This has been changed to a 16 player draw. The Southern Junior Competition Committee has created a new event to help
players transition from the Orange Ball in the 10's to the Yellow ball in the 12
and under Championship events. There will be a limited draw (8 players each) for
11 and under Boys and Girls. The playing format will be the same as the
Championship 12 but these events will use Green Dot Balls. To Sign up use the
12 & Under Green. CRITERIA FOR 11 AND UNDER STA LEVEL 3
EVENTS:
1.
January 1 to September 1 is a “grace period” where players have the opportunity
to play green ball or yellow to try to reach a 12 & under standing of 300.
2.
After September 1, all players aged 11 & under will be required to play
green ball to reach the benchmark of 300 in the 12U Division in order to
progress to 12U yellow ball play. When the top 300 benchmark is reached, players
will be added to the Top 300 12U Benchmark
Players, which can be found here.
Note: Age-eligible 11U players who
have reached the Top 300 Benchmark may participate in the 11U Green division.
This change was put in effect May 19, 2015 for tournaments through December 31,
2015.
3.
Points for the 11 & under Green division will be awarded STA L4 Points for
the Feed In Thru Quarterfinals table, which can be found here.
4.
One player from the top 20 of the 10 and under standings will be included in
the draw of eight.
5.
Player must be 11 & under and sign up for this tournament in the “12 &
Under Green Ball Division”. Players
who are not age-eligible to participate will be moved into the 12 & Under
Yellow Ball Division where they fall on the list.
6.
Players may enter both 11 & under green and 12 & under yellow. When selections
are made, the 12 and under yellow is selected first, and if the player is
selected, he/she is removed from consideration for the 11U green.

This tournament is a Great Sports Event
Tennis comes with a bloodline of
sportsmanship that few other sports can match. Even though there are
officials roving the courts, it is still an un-officiated sport.
* Always
give the benefit of doubt to your opponent on a close line call.
* Make
calls against yourself, such as a double-bounce or touching the net while
the point is in progress.
* Call
out the score every point.
* Congratulate
your opponent on great shots.
* Parents
– be good sports outside the court.
* And
win or lose, end the match with a removal of hats and a handshake at the
net!
To reward the good sports at our
tournament the officials or ditectors will be handing out pins to players who
exhibit great sportsmanship and uphold the tradition of honor in our
sport.
Good luck to everyone!

REFUNDS
There will be no refunds after the deadline. No exceptions!
|
Selection Process
Draws will be limited to 32. The top 32 players applying will be selected by the USTA Southern Section office, from the latest USTA Southern standing list -- 28 players from the age group will be selected and up to 4 players from the younger age group that have a top 40 standing and are not in the selected 28.
|
Signing up for two events
Players are allowed to enter two divisions with these guidelines:#1. Players selected to both age divisions they apply for will automatically be selected in the older age division. They would be removed from the other age division. #2. Players not selected to either division would remain on the alternates lists for both divisions but would be obligated to play the division they first get in from the alternates list. They would be removed from the Alternates list in the other division. #3. Players selected to one age group would be removed from the alternates list of the division they were not selected. #4. Once a player is selected for any one division no changes can be made.
|
Seeding Process
The process is as follows: 1) Southern provides the latest selection list with the top 32 applicants in rank order. 2) This applicant list of 32 players is then waterfalled. 3) Each group of 16 players is then seeded. Players in Lower Standing are taken into consideration based on the seeding calculator.
|
Format and Scoring
32 players will be selected for each event (see Selection Process headline) and then be split into two Draws of 16 players using the Waterfall System for selection (see Waterfall Headline), with a Full Feed In Consolation through the Quarters and 3/4 playoff. The Feed-In Consolation will play through the Quarterfinals. The best two out of three sets with a 10 point match tiebreak in lieu of a third set will be played for all Boys and Girls 12s - 18s
|
Waterfall System for splitting Competitors
The players will be ordered using current standings and players from the younger age group that met the seeding requirements put in their place. The 32 players will be split as follows: Red 1,4,5, 8,9,12,13,16,17,20,21,24,25,28,29,32 and Green 2,3, 6,7,10,11,14,15,18,19,22,23,26,27,30,31
|

Parent Education Forum Presentation
Quite a few years ago, USTA North Carolina led the way with an online PowerPoint we called the Parent Education Forum. It began to give parents a better understanding of what a tennis parent needs to do, and not do, as it relates to their child and tennis. We also sprinkled some rules to help cut down on some confusion at the tournament sites. Since that time the USTA Southern Section has formed a Sportsmanship Task force to deal with the many issues that come our way that unfortunately involve parents much more than our kids. The video you are asked to watch is an expansion of what you have seen in previous years. It has changed and more information has been added to it that deals directly with sportsmanship. Therefore, in an effort to promote and encourage good sportsmanship among junior players and parents, USTA North Carolina and the USTA Southern Junior Competition Committee are asking all parents to visit the link below and view the presentation before having their child participate in any sanctioned tournament.
