Attention Tournament Players: Please note that due to the overwhelming response and number of entries in the Men's Open Singles Event and other larger draws that we will schedule a number of matches on WEDNESDAY and/or THURSDAY day and/OR evening. As a general rule, the earliest first round matches for MOS during the week (Wednesday-Friday) are scheduled at 4, 5, 6, 7 an/or 8pm. Saturday and Sunday matches may be scheduled throughout the day from 8am to 8pm start times. Older age division (60s, 65s, 70s, 75s, and 80s), first round matches may scheduled earlier in the day (during the week Wednesday-Friday) as early as NOON, 1, 2, 3 and/or 4pm to avoid match play at night. Saturday and Sunday matches for 60s-80s may be scheduled throughout the day and into the late afternoon and/or early evening So larger draws and 60-80s be prepared to play as early as Wednesday and/or Thursday. NOTE: Most match play tends to take
place over the weekend Friday-Sunday.
Some of the older age divisions and larger draws may start as early
as Wednesday and/or Thursday. As part of one of the Valley's
premier homeowner establishments, Val Vista Lakes Tennis Club is
pleased to welcome you to the 19th Annual Val Vista Lakes Polar
Bear Senior Presented by First International Bank and Trust.
As in years past, this event is held as part of The USTA Southwest
Section Senior Open Tournament Calendar offering Men's and Women's
Open events as well as senior age group events. The Polar Bear
attracts up to 200 players and guest from throughout the Valley,
Southwest US and abroad competing in singles, doubles, and mixed
events. Players will be competing for cash, prizes, and the
opportunity to gain Southwest Section ranking points. We welcome
all amateur and touring professionals to compete in this exciting
event. Val Vista Lakes Home Owners Association Boasts some of the
nicest tennis courts in the Valley and the Southwest. Come on out
and enjoy the beautiful tropical atmosphere and great tennis!
An exciting addition to this year's event is a Special Men's Open
Prize Money Event. This year the winner of the VVL Polar Bear
Tennis Classic Men's Open Division will receive $1,500 in prize
money. The Men's Open Singles Finalist will receive $500.00 and
Men's Open Semi-Finalist will receive $250 each.
NOTE: Prize money does not accumulate each round. For example if
you win in the Semi-Final round and advance to the Finals you do
not receive $250 for the Semi-Final round plus the additional $500
for advancing to the Finals. We are also looking into allocating
some prize money for Quarter-finalists. Please check online
regularly for updates.
Prize money at lower levels will also be awarded to Men's Open
Doubles, Women's Open Singles and Doubles Winners and Finalist and
Mixed Open Doubles Winners and Finalists based on the formula
below.
*Prize Money Requirements and Break Down: A minimum of 8 players or
teams per draw is required in order to be eligible for prize money.
Men's Open Singles: Winner receives $1,500 Finalist receives $500.
Semi-Finalist will receive $250.
Women's Singles: Winner receive $100-$300, Finalist receives
$50-$150. A minimum of 8 players in the draw is required in order
to be eligible for prize money. 8 Players: Winner receives $100
& Finalist receives $50, 16 Players: Winner receives $150 &
Finalist receives $75, 24 Players: Winner receives $200 &
Finalist receives $100, 32 Players: Winner receives $300 and
Finalist receives $150.
Men's & Women's Open Doubles and Mixed Doubles:
NOTE: A minimum of 8 teams per draw is required in order to be
eligible for prize money. Winners receive $100-200 per team $100
with 8 teams in draw, $200 with 16 teams in draw. Finalist receive
$50-$100 per team - $50 with 8 teams in draw, $100 with 16 or more
teams in draw.
PLEASE NOTE: Although the earliest match play for most draws is
more likely to take start on Thursday and/or Friday, please be
prepared to play as early as Wednesday. Match play on Wednesday
and/or Thursday is more likely for larger draws and for older age
divisions. With the exception of Friday matches most matches for
Adult seniors ages 55 or younger will be scheduled during the
evening on Thursday and Friday. Please be a little flexible on
Friday as we hope to schedule as many matches during the day to
avoid night time play.
Hospitality:
Breakfast foods, drinks, and snacks are provided throughout the
tournament. Please join us on Saturday February 7th for a Player
Pizza Party from 11am-1pm and/or from 5-7pm depending on the size
and schedule of tournament draws.
