ATTENTION PLAYERS
You may have noticed that all draws that have both boys and girls are now appearing twice. Please do not be concerned. NorCal had to duplicate these draws so that the results for boys could be counted in the boys' divisions and the results for girls could count in the girls' divisions. Despite the duplicate draws, players will receive ranking points in the division of their gender only once.

TOURNAMENT OVERVIEW
Coed Round Robin tournaments are new to
the 2014 NorCal Junior Tournament Calendar. These intermediate level,
two-day events are co-ed tournaments and are open to players with a UT Rating
of 4 and above. Draws may be limited
based on the court availability for the tournament and the total number of
players accepted must be divisible by four.
Players that enter will be flighted with other players
with similar ability into round robins of four (4) by their Universal
Tennis Ratings (UTR), regardless of gender and age. For example, you can be a
13-year-old and be grouped with three other 17-year-old of similar ratings in
the same draw. Each player will play three singles matches using the best of 3 set
match format. Players in the same round
robin draw will be randomly paired into doubles teams and will play one doubles
match using the best of 3 set format.
|
UNIVERSAL TENNIS RATINGS
Every NorCal player that has competed
in a USTA National or NorCal tournament that uses a yellow tennis ball in the
past 12 months has a Universal Tennis Rating. This is the rating that is used
to select players for a Super Series and group them into Compass Draws. The
rating is based on a player’s most recent 30 singles match results so long as
they took place in the 12-month period. Each player is assigned a level (from 1
to 16, with 16 as the highest) based on the level of their opponent and the
match score. Levels are without regard to age or gender. To learn more about
Universal Tennis Ratings, click the link:

ENTERING BOTH STANFORD SUPER SERIES & STOCKTON COED ROUND ROBIN
USTA NorCal has sanctioned a Super
Series tournament for May 17 and 18 in Stanford, CA. Concurrent entry in the
Stanford Super Series is permitted, but players will be selected for one
tournament. Entry in the concurrent Super Series and Coed Round Robin is
permitted without permission of the Tournament Committees (see USTA NorCal Rule
6.B.iii.).
A PLAYER MUST ENTRY BOTH TOURNAMENTS TO
BE CONSIDERED FOR BOTH TOURNAMENTS. Selection
is first done for the Super Series, then for the Coed Round Robin. Once a player is selected for one tournament
that player may not subsequently withdraw from that tournament to play in the
other. Doing so shall be considered a violation of the Concurrent Tournament
Rule.
|
SELECTION & DRAWLIMIT
The top 64 rated players with timely
entries in each division will be selected using the most recently available
Universal Tennis Ratings. It is anticipated that the ratings available on or
about Wednesday, May 7 will be used. Selection will be posted on or before the
end of the day on Friday, May 8.
If there are more than 64 entries for
this tournament when entries close, the draw size is limited to 64 players (16
round robin draws of 4 players). The total number of players accepted
into the tournament must be divisible by 4. For example, if there are 65
entries, 64 players will be accepted. If there are 62 entries, 60 players will
be accepted. If there are 59 entries, 56 players will be accepted. The tournament may expand the draw beyond 64 players as long as the number is divisible by four and provided they have enough courts/sites
