Tournament Information
USTA/MIDWEST LEVEL 2 TOURNAMENT This tournament has USTA/Midwest Level 2 points, and will have a
32-Player Compass Draw. The tournament will begin on Saturday, August 30 and will
finish on Monday, September 1. Players are expected to play and complete all
scheduled matches. All tournament matches will be played outdoors, weather
permitting. Indoor court back-up is available if it rains.
USTA/MIDWEST SECTIONS SUSPENSION POINTS MAY
APPLY IF YOU SIGN UP FOR TWO TOURNAMENTS THAT RUN SIMULTANEOUSLY The USTA
Code of Conduct and Suspension Point System is in effect, and all players are
expected to play this entire event as scheduled. This applies to all players
who register for the tournament including alternates. If you are signing up for
this tournament and for any other tournament that takes place, in whole or in
part, at the same time, you are required to e-mail both Tournament Directors
BEFORE THE ENTRY DEADLINE to let them know what you are signing up for as well
as what your order of preference to play is (what tournament is your first choice,
and what tournament is your second choice). If this is not done and you appear
on two or more lists without informing all Tournament Directors involved, you
will be issued five suspension points and you will not receive any entry fee
refunds. Basically you cannot appear as an applicant, competitor or alternate
on two or more separate tournaments that take place at the same time (even if
there is only a one day overlap) unless you have followed these instructions.
PLEASE PROVIDE ALL CONTACT INFORMATION WHEN
YOU REGISTER The
USTA Legal Department has determined that they cannot provide contact
information to tournament directors unless the customer provides the contact
information during the registration process. If you don't provide an e-mail
address and/or telephone number when you register for this tournament we will
be unable to notify you about any important changes that may occur in the
tournament.
USTA/MIDWEST SECTION SEEDING &
SELECTION CRITERIA Players
will be selected based on the most current USTA/Midwest Section BG10 Standing
List available at the entry deadline. Any alternates will also be ordered using
this list. Seeding will be done based on the most current USTA/Midwest Section
Standing List available at the time the seeding is completed.
PLAYER SELECTION AND ORDERED ALTERNATE LIST The
selection process for this tournament will be completed by Monday, August 24.
By 6:00 p.m. on that day we will post the PLAYER LIST. If there are more
entrants than the size of the draw, we will also post the ORDERED ALTERNATE
LIST. IMPORTANT: If draws are not full at the entry deadline, we may extend the
entry deadline by a few days and late entries may be allowed.
USTA/MIDWEST SECTION RULES FOR ALL BG10
SANCTIONED TOURNAMENTS All
Midwest BG10 tournaments are played on 78-foot regulation size tennis courts
using the Green Dot Ball. In addition, the required scoring format is Match
Tiebreak (first player to 10 points, but you must win by 2) in lieu of a full
third set. The Green Dot Ball is 25 % slower and lower bouncing than the Yellow
Ball. This helps players to continue to develop good technique and movement, as
well as learn to implement advanced tactics. Tournaments can consist of team
and/or individual events. The USTA/Midwest Section recommends this stage for
training and it is required in all Level 1-7 tournaments in the USTA/Midwest
Section Points Per Round Program.
NON-ELIMINATION COMPASS DRAW FORMAT This is a
LEVEL 2 MIDWEST USTA POINTS PER ROUND tournament (there are no National Points
awarded for this tournament). This tournament will utilize the compass draw
format. The compass draw format is non-elimination, and feeds players who lose
their matches into a variety of consolation draws (East, West, North, South,
Northwest, Southwest, etc., hence the name Compass Draw). We are hoping that we
have a full 32-draw for a guarantee of five matches per player. If the draws
are not full we can still play a compass draw format, but there may be fewer
matches per player due to byes in the draw. All players are welcome, and this
is a great opportunity to play in a non-elimination format and to play lots of
matches!
SCORING FORMAT The
scoring format will be Match Tiebreak (first player to 10 points, but you must
win by 2) in lieu of a full third set, with advantage scoring. A player will be
entitled to a three minute rest period after splitting sets and before playing
the Match Tiebreak. The three-minute rest period is the only time during any
match where coaching is allowed. All matches will be played outdoors, weather
permitting (we do have plenty of indoor back-up courts available if it rains).
The Green Dot Ball will be used, and all matches will be played on regulation
78-foot courts.
INDIVIDUAL FIRST MATCH TIMES A list of INDIVIDUAL FIRST MATCH TIMES will be
posted on this site on Wednesday, August 26 at 6:00 p.m. There will be a link
above (under Tournament Reports) with a list of all first round match times. To
help with you with planning now, NO matches will be played on Saturday before
9:00 a.m.
DRAWS The DRAWS
will be posted at the start of the tournament.
PRACTICE COURTS The
Midland Community Tennis Center is an award-winning facility, with 16 indoor
hard courts, 15 outdoor hard courts, 4 outdoor clay courts, and 4 outdoor
permanent QuickStart courts. There will be plenty of outdoor hard courts
available for practice before the tournament begins each morning. Reservations
will not be taken for any outdoor practice courts, but please see our friendly
Welcome Center staff when you arrive for a court assignment. Outdoor practice
courts (hard courts) will be free for tournament players, but you must have a
COURT ASSIGNMENT CARD in order to enter the courts. Prevailing court rates will
apply for indoor courts, and all fees must be paid prior to receiving a COURT
ASSIGNMENT CARD. Indoor court reservations may be considered, but we have not
yet determined that. Please check back after Individual First Match Times are
posted. We will update this practice court information at that time.
