Sportsmanship Trophy Winners: Liza Plakseychuk and Robby Shymansky
Liza Plakseychuk,
G18 from the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Squirrel Hill, and Robert Shymansky, B16 and B18D, of Indiana Township are the winners
of the Sportsmanship Award for the 2014 Fox Chapel Junior Open. Both have played in the tournament a number
of times, always showing good sportsmanship, and were nominated this year by
opponents and tournament officials. Liza lost two close matches in G18 singles,
while Robby, only 13, placed third in B16 and lost a close first-round doubles
match in B18. They will receive a
Sportsmanship Trophy and letter of commendation.
Thank you to all players for your nominations and for
displaying terrific sportsmanship during the tournament.

Thank You for Participating in the 17th Annual Fox Chapel Junior Open
The 17th Annual Fox Chapel Junior Open concluded
Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 6, with the Girls’ 18 Doubles’ Final, the last of 204
matches played in only three days. Thank you all for participating and for again
displaying outstanding sportsmanship. There were 129 singles entries and 70
doubles entries. All results -- singles, consolations and doubles – will generate
Allegheny Mountain District and Middle States Sectional ranking points. .Please contact the Tournament Chairman to correct any score at tom@benic.net.

The 17th Annual Fox Chapel Junior Open is one of four AMD
"Designated" Tournaments, awarding double the District Ranking
points as a standard tournament. This is a "Player Friendly" event,
with six trophies in each singles divisions and having a full First
Match Losers Consolation in singles, played out to a Consolation
Winner and Finalist. Doubles is single-elimination with trophies to
the Champion and Finalist teams. The tournament moves at a fast
pace with two-matches a day for most players using No-Ad Scoring
and a Super-Tiebreaker to decide the match if the sets are
split.
No Selection Process. All registered players will be selected.
Entry to this tournament is open to all USTA members. Entries must be submitted by Monday, July 28, 2014 11:45:00 PM Eastern Time. Only USTA members can register online if available.
