for 10 & Under Tennis in 2011 All USTA Southwest Section 10
& under competition will be the 60 foot/Orange Ball format.
USTA National and USTA Southwest Section have adopted new rules
governing 10 & under competition. Players will now be playing
on a size appropriate court, be able to play longer points, develop
strategy and tactical skills, develop the correct technique, have
the appropriate strike zone, compete and have fun! Play will be on
a 60 foot lined tennis court, using the Orange Ball with a racket
that may not exceed 25 inches. For all 10 & under competition
the format will be best of three short sets (first to 4 7 point
tiebreaker at 4 all) with a short 7- point match tiebreak for the
third set. You can find excellent information at
www.youtube.com/tennis. For more information on 10 & Under
tennis please visit: http://www.usta.com/rulechange/ . New Division
for 12 & Under Tennis in 2011 The 12 & Under Division will
also have a 78 foot/Green Ball division along with the traditional
78 foot/Yellow Ball competition. The 78 foot/Green Ball division is
for: existing 10 & under players who feel their playing
competencies are beyond the new 60 foot court, Orange Ball division
New and existing players who are too old for the 10 and under
division but would benefit from using the Green Ball Players who
are transitioning from Orange Ball 60 foot tournament play . It is
not recommended that players transition from 60 foot/Orange Ball
competition to 78 foot/Yellow Ball competition. In Level 3, 4, and
5 tournaments the format will be best of three tiebreak sets for 78
foot/Yellow Ball. In Level 3, 4, and 5 tournaments the format will
be two sets with a match tiebreak for the 3rd set for 78 foot/Green
Ball. Only 78 foot/Yellow Ball competition will count in the
national rankings. In Level 6 events, the tournament director will
post the play format for all age groups. If you are signing up for
a 12 & under division it is important that you email the
tournament director and notify them if you are playing 78
foot/Green Ball so they can place you in the proper division of
12s. To summarize, Yellow Ball/78 foot court is for accomplished
players with the size and strength to handle full court tennis with
the traditional Yellow Ball. Green Ball/78 foot tennis is for
existing, accomplished 10 & under players, players
transitioning from Orange Ball, and players too old for 10 &
under but ready for tournament competition. If you need help
