Thank you!
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Arlington Tennis Center CMZ Doubles tournament! We appreciate how patient the players and their families were through the rain yesterday and when the sleet arrived today. We had hoped to finish the main draw matches, but the weather did not cooperate, requiring that the tournament be cancelled around 11:45am.
Final results are posted. Note: matches in progress are listed as 'abandoned.' Matches not started or not played are listed as 'unplayed.'
Good luck to everyone in your next tournament, and safe travels home!

Sportsmanship
Congratulations to Basil Post of Red Oak for being chosen by the tournament staff to receive the Sportsmanship Award for the tournament! Basil displayed outstanding sportsmanship on and off the court. He was respectful of his opponents, played fairly, had a great attitude with tournament staff, and expressed a fun, positive attitude. As the Sportsmanship winner, Basil will receive a week of camp at John Newcombe's Tennis Ranch. Congratulations, Basil!

All courts at ATC and UTA are dry and playable. Report to your scheduled site at the scheduled time. Thanks!

Sunday Revised Schedule
Thanks to everyone for your extraordinary patience during the rain delays on Saturday. We hope you had an opportunity to come by ATC today and pick up your tournament towel and gift certificate. If not, please stop by the proshop today.
Sunday main draw match schedule has been revised. Please check site location carefully! G16, B12 and G12 all play at UTA (the site originally scheduled for them on Saturday). All other divisions play at ATC: B18, B16, B14, G18 and G14. We will be using no ad scoring and short sets, with a set-tiebreak for third sets through the semi finals. The matches will go very quickly. For the finals, we will be using "ZAT" format (two sets, no ad, deciding match tie-break for third sets).
Regrettably, due to time limitations on Sunday, Consolation has been cancelled.
Weather updates for Sunday will begin 6:30-6:45am on the website and on the program status (rain) line, 817-459-6166.
Again, thank you for your patience on Saturday, and if you have not already done so, remember to stop by ATC on Sunday to pick up your gift certificate and tournament towel. (The value of both is half your entry fee!)

Sat, 2:30 PM: Final Update
As of 2:30pm on Saturday, November 23: All three sites, Lamar High School, UTA and Arlington Tennis Center, continue to be unplayable. Some sites are still experiencing misting rain.
At this time, no sites have courts that could be even close to ready for play by 3:30-4:00pm today. Courts at all sites are completely saturated, and with cloud cover and high humidity, along with darkness expected around 5:00pm, we have projected that no courts will be playable at all today.
After consultation with USTA Texas Competitive Department, PLAY FOR TODAY, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 23, HAS BEEN CANCELLED.
Regarding Sunday matches: The forecast for Sunday is not conducive to play. However, Section policy directs that we must react to weather, not forecasts. As a result, we cannot make a decision about Sunday matches until tomorrow. We will be posting updates regarding Sunday matches beginning at 6:30-6:45am on Sunday. We also encourage players to call the ATC rain line, 817-459-6166, which will be updated at the same time as the website.
We understand the great inconvenience to players and their families with the weather issues. As our way of saying, "Thank you" to the players who are still in the tournament, and who have been extremely patient during the weather delays, Arlington Tennis Center has a $10 gift certificate for you, along with a tournament towel. Please come by ATC between 3:00-5:00pm for your gift certificate and tournament towel.

Check Draws for Updates!
Due to the volume of withdrawals this afternoon and evening, resulting in substantial time required to contact partners, repartner teams and update draws on line, we will not be able to contact all opponents about schedule updates. Please be sure to check the draws this evening and in the morning for changes.
|
Weather Withdrawals
Note: ATC email will not be processed after 8:00 PM Friday, Nov 22, until after 6:30 AM Saturday, Nov 23.
We understand that some players may choose to withdraw due to the forecasted inclement weather in their areas, and in Arlington/DFW. Safety should always be a first consideration. Timely Championship withdrawals will not receive penalty points. No-shows DO receive penalty points.
If you need to withdraw due to the weather issue, we ask the following:
- Email (in writing is required) the withdrawal as soon as possible, preferably before 6:00 PM on Friday, November 22, so that we have time to notify your partner and your opponents, as well as adjust the draws. Withdrawals substantially affect Consolation draws and scheduling because of the 'First Off' consolation process. In addition, no one will be available to read and act upon a withdrawal that comes in after hours on Friday, or before 6:30 AM Saturday morning. Timely notification of withdrawals is critical.
- Indicate the gender and age division.
- Please clarify if you are withdrawing for just yourself, or for your team (both players).
Good luck, and be safe.

Weekend Weather
Weather for this weekend is predicted to be cold, with some chance of rain, and possible sleet on Sunday. Bring appropriate clothing, and always hydrate before, during and after play, even in colder weather.
Check this website, and call the ATC rain line 817-459-6166, for schedule/delay updates. By the Section's tournament policy, we will not make any changes in the schedule, including delaying morning matches, based on a rainy forecast. (Better to have players in place, ready to play if the weather cooperates, than to delay and waste possible court time.) If delays do occur in the morning (Saturday), we will have the website and rain line updated between 6:30-7:00 AM. We do realize the frustration about the weather, and we thank you for your patience (a crystal ball would also be much appreciated). If in doubt, show up at your scheduled site at the scheduled match time.
Note: If weather is an issue, the Referee may elect to adjust scoring (no add, short sets, etc.), or cancel consolation. However, a decision about shortened scoring or cancelling consolation will not be made in advance.

Team Adjustments
USTA Texas contacted us Wednesday (11/13) to let us know they had overlooked age ineligible players. (Championship players may not play up.) As a result, a number of players who entered the wrong age divisions had to be unpartnered and moved to the appropriate age divisions. Doing so left players in both divisions without a partner, requiring us to re-order unpartnered players with the Championship Standing List. Team adjustments were necessarily made. If you have any questions, please contact USTA Texas Competitive Department.

Doubles Teams Confirmed
Doubles pairings for non-partnered applicants have been completed.
- Ineligible players have been removed and contacted.
- Adjustments may have been made to some teams who listed a partner at registration, due to, for example, ineligibility of a partner, or a partner listed who did not enter.
- All eligible partners who registered together, stay together. Changes will not be made to the team unless a substitution is required due to a withdrawal.
- Any player who registered individually (or was determined to be individual due to, for example, an ineligible partner) was paired with another individual entrant in descending order from the Championship Standings List. Players who did not appear on the Championship Standings List were paired at random.
- Changes will not be made to these pairings unless substitutions are required due to a withdrawal.
- Important: If an odd number of players was in a division, the lowest player on the Championship Standings List (or the player not on the list, and chosen at random) was moved to the Alternates, and will be considered a first option Substitute.
- Alternates/Substitutes who are not placed may find a partner to play with who was previously not registered. Prior to draw preparation (that begins later this week), the new player will need to have eligibility verified and pay all fees before (s)he can be placed in the tournament.
- Alternates/Substitutes who registered for the tournament, but who are not selected to play will receive a refund.
|
Doubles Pairings Done
Doubles pairings for non-partnered applicants have been completed. However, Competitors will not be visible while USTA Texas verifies eligibility, as adjustments in teams may need to be made. Once eligibility has been verified and team adjustments (if any) have been made, Competitors will be made visible. Note: Draws that had an odd number of players required lowest player on the Championship Standings List (or players who did not appear on the list and chosen at random) to be placed as a substitute. If those players are not selected to participate in the tournament, a refund will be issued.
|
Doubles Partners (Teams)
- All partners who registered together, stay together.
- Any player who registers individually will be paired with another individual entrant in descending order from the Championship Standings List.
- Players may not make changes to this pairing unless a substitution is required from a partner's withdrawal.
- Players who do not appear on the Championship Standings List will be paired at random.
- Important: If an odd number of players are in an event, the lowest player on the Championship Standings List (or the player not on the list, and chosen at random) will be eligible to play as a Substitute.
- If a player registered for the tournament, and is not selected to play due to above circumstances, a refund will be issued.
|
Substitutions
Players may not make changes to the original partners (registered with someone, or paired from ) unless a substitution is required from a partner's withdrawal. Doubles Substitutions for withdrawals are allowed anytime before the doubles team's first round match. Note: The substitute MUST be Championship qualified, and be in the same age division. In addition, eligible players who miss the deadline may be considered for Substitution in their age division.
