If it Rains….
Because of the unique topography of the greater Rome area, there are many times when the weather at one site is horrible and play continues at others. Many times we move matches from one site to another to allow matches to be completed and in so doing, keep the tournament on schedule (as much as possible). Some matches may even be moved a second time, if that’s what it takes to get them completed. When it rains, you are not excused to leave the facility without the permission of the referee at the site where you are playing. NOTE: We ask for your cell phone number and hotel room at check-in. We need this information to contact you.
Don’t abandon the phone in your car or bury it in your bag. Give us a number someone will answer!!
When it Rains…
We don’t have time to answer the phone. We are already getting calls from 6 other site referees, trying to coordinate what we will do.
Here is the order in which we give out information…
1. Announce delays and changes to all those actually at the site. 2. Twitter 3. Tournament website (the one you are on right now)
4. Answer 5,000,000 questions from those standing at the desk
5. If we have a spare moment, (which we won’t) ANSWER THE PHONE.
.....SUGGESTION…..
Activate your phone to receive Twitter

Rest periods between singles matche The following heat policy will be implemented: When players are scheduled to play 2 singles matches in one day, they will be offered a rest period equal to the length of their first match (up to 3 hours). They will be offered a minimum of 2 hours rest regardless of first match length. This rest period guideline does not apply to doubles.
|
3-Minute Coaching Break In matches playing a match tiebreak in lieu of a third set there will be a 3-minute coaching break between the end of the second set and the match-deciding tiebreak. This 3-minute break is treated the same as the 2-minute set break between first and second sets, except that players may receive coaching on the court. Players may not leave the court. unless requesting a toilet break. The toilet break will be taken after the 3-minute coaching break. No coaching is allowed during the toilet break for either player.
|
Advance Rehabilitation Advance Rehabilitation will be providing a Certified Athletic Trainer for the tournament. The athletic trainer will be available 30 min prior to the start of play each until the end of the day for taping, injury treatment, injury evaluation, and assist with searching further medical treatment if needed. All 2013 competitors who win a match in the Georgia Jr. Open (BG18-12) will become “national players” on TennisRecruiting.net. Due to the strength of the competitors in the 2012 Georgia Jr. Open, this tournament in 2013 will be in a class that will determine “national players” on TennisRecruiting.net. Heretofore a "national player" is one who has competed in a USTA Level 1-3 tournament or in one of the Sectional tournaments that count for USTA national rankings. Because of the reduction in size of many of the USTA tournaments on its national schedule, TennisRecruiting.net is allowing several tournaments in 2013 to determine additional “national players” for its ranking system. This upgraded qualification is done annually. All 2013 competitors who win a match in the Georgia Jr. Open will become “national players” on TennisRecruiting.net.
|
Electronic Devices Prohibited on court Players may not use electronic devises on court that are designed for communication (cell phones, pda's, etc.) or data storage/display (pocket notebook, rolodex, word processor, etc.). Use of these devices (except during the 3-minute coaching break between the second set and a match-deciding tiebreak) will result in immediate code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct. (A device that is in the "ON" mode constitutes use.) Notes and printed material brought on court for reference with a player are permitted.
|
10 and under Court, Racquet, and Scoring Formats • Boys/Girls 10s will play all matches on a 60-foot court • 10's must use a 25-inch racquet. Racquet longer than 25 inches will not be allowed. • Low compression balls suitable for 60-foot courts will be used. • Singles matches will play two short sets with at 7-point tiebreak played in lieu of a thrid set. • If you are a new 10 and under player, see the special membership offer below.
|
Seeding Since the Georgia Junior Open is a USTA Southern Level 3 Tournament, we must follow the STA SEEDING CRITERIA, which are: SINGLES Seeding shall be done using only the results from most recently published USTA Southern Combined Standings Lists of the division in the order in which players appear on the list. The most current list is the most recently published list. Players who have a standing in the next younger age division will be inserted into the seeds using the STA Seeding Calculator. Players with current top 50 USTA National standing, top 100 ITF ranking, top 1000 ATP or WTA rankings will be considered for seeding. Players from outside the Southern Section may be seeded based on National Standing and player record.
DOUBLES Teams shall be seeded in the order of their combined standings (e.g., Player A is #1 on the current standing list and Player B is #10. The Team of A & B would have a standing of 11.)
|
Withdrawals and Refunds Withdrawals After the entry deadline and entries have closed, a player shall not withdraw from a tournament except for illness, injury, personal emergency, or previously authorized entry into another tournament. If you withdraw online before entries close, there is no penalty and your entry fee will be credited by the TennisLink entry system. Refunds Since there are fewer than 7 days until the start of the tournament, if you withdraw after entries close, there will be no refund regardless of reason.

STOP !!!!!! Before you go any farther, READ THIS !Any Match time you see on this site (especially the draw sheets) other than your first match time is NOT OFFICIAL.The only official match time is the one posted on the draw sheet at the site where you are playing your match. We DO NOT verbally tell you your next match time!! We DO NOT give our little pieces of paper with your next time on it. If you have the numeric skill to use a TV remote, not to mention an iPhone, you can read your match time from the draw sheet. If you have trouble understanding the draw sheets, we will help you, but we will not tell you your next time.Pay close attention to the site code next to your time. We have layered the events so that most players in an event are playing at the same time. This prevents having part of an event a round ahead of another part of that event in case of a rainout (which has been all too common this year). While we would prefer to keep all matches of each event at the same site all day, but that's just not possible. DOUBLES TIMES are now on the report. Sunday times will be posted Saturday after all matches are complete. Since the probability of rain is above 30%, doulbes will follow singles on Sunday. Sites are indicated by the 2 or 3-letter code following the time. Scroll down for directions (and street addresses) for all sites. Click "more info" to access the First Match Report. Draws will be posted at 9:00 a.m. Friday.

5-Minute Scheduling will be used. For several years we used 5-Minute scheduling and it has been very successful. Scheduling every 5 minutes will mean that very few matches will be scheduled as part of a group, except for the large group of matches that will start each day. Check your match time carefully so that you won’t be late.

History of GA Open The GA Junior Open has a rich heritage dating back to it's beginning in 1955. The event was started at Bitsy Grant Tennis Center in Atlanta, where it was held for more than 20 years. When the tournament outgrew the 13 clay courts at Bitsy Grant, the GA Open was moved to South Fulton Tennis Center in 1978, where it remained for 25 years. Because of continued growth, the GA Open evolved into a 2-week event with 10-14's playing one week and the 16-18's the next. In 2003 the tournament moved to Rome. Because of the 60+ courts available for tournament play, it returned to the one-week format.
From the start the GA Open was a stop on the Southern National Circuit. It has been a USTA National event for most of its existence. However, the USTA elected to limit each section to 4 Level 4 events and 8 Level 5 events. Since there are 4 Sectional Championships and 8 Bullfrog Designated events in the Southern Section, the GA Open lost its USTA national status about 5 years ago.
However, the Tennis Recruiting Network [TRN] has recognized the strength of field of the GA Open and it has designated it as a National event for TRN rankings for the past three years. We are delighted that TRN, the official research site for college coaches, has recognized the strength of the GA Junior Open.
Former champions include Charlie Pasarell, Zan Guerry, Andy Brandi, Crawford Henry, John Callen, Donna Floyd Fales and Grace Min among others. We hope you will become part of the legacy created by these and other notable players who have played in or won the GA Junior Open.
