WHAT IS THE USTA BOYS 18 NATIONAL TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS?
The National Team championships are played between teams from the 17 Sections of the USTA in early August each year. They provide an opportunity to be seen by college coaches, play against players outside the Section and earn National ranking Level 1 points and New England section ranking points. They also provide a great opportunity for lots of fun, competitive experience and development of physical, mental and emotional skills. New England will send a team of seven (7) boys and one (1) team coach to this year’s event to be held on hard courts at Atkins Tennis Center, University of Illinois, Urbana, IL.

MATCH FORMAT:
Each team match will be a collegiate format six (6) singles and three (3) doubles. Match-play begins on Saturday July 30th and ends Tuesday August 2nd. Players should plan to arrive on Friday July 29th and must commit to the entire schedule.

TEAM SELECTION:
Registering for this event does not mean that you will automatically be selected. Participation on this team requires Section endorsement. Selection will be based on the most current combined endorsement list. Tournaments through June 30, 2011 will be included in the computation of the endorsement list that will be used for selection. The USTA New England National Selection Committee reserves the right to endorse and select a maximum of two players who may not have met the competitive requirements. Players must be in good standing with the New England junior Sportsmanship committee in order to be selected. Team selection, including alternates, will be posted on the USTA New England junior web page by July 1, 2011. (Click on Section teams>Teams Selected.) Alternates do not travel to the event.

REGISTRATION:
To be considered for team or alternate selection players must: (1) complete the USTA TENNISLINK registration process online by the June 12th registration deadline. (2) Submit a completed USTA RELEASE FORM and a completed USTA New England RELEASE FORM by June 12, 2011 by fax (508-366-5805) by email (zeutas-broer@newengland.usta.com) or by mail (postmarked by June 12, 2011). IF YOU ARE NOT SELECTED YOUR CREDIT CARD WILL NOT BE CHARGED.

FEES:
Team Uniform Fee $50, Coaching Fee $50. (Tournament Entry Fee, Hotel and most meals will be paid for by the USTA New England Section.) If you are not selected, your credit card will NOT be charged. All players not selected will remain as alternates. If an alternate is selected due to a withdrawal they will be contacted and will be required to submit a check to the Section office for the above uniform and coaching fees. If a player wants to be removed from the alternate list they may do so by contacting David Zeutas-Broer, Player Development Manager, at the Section office.

TRAVEL & ACCOMODATIONS:
Players are responsible for their travel expenses to and from Illinois. Players will be provided with transportation to and from the airport and to and from the courts every day. Hotel accommodations will be arranged and paid for by the USTA New England Section.

TEAM COACH:
The USTA New England Section will assign and send one (1) coach to the event. This coach may coach players at specific times during matches and will supervise the team at official team events. If in attendance, players’ personal coaches and parents are NOT permitted to coach during this event.

Players are selected manually by the tournament director after the close of registration.
