Match Times
We will be playing two rounds of singles on the first day. First round matches will be scheduled to begin between 10:00 and 2:30. There will be no byes in the singles draw. If you know that you will not be able to make those times, please let us know as soon as possible so that we may call our alternates. First round start times will be posted here at or about 8:00 PM this evening.
Field and Draw
The field has been selected. Click on Competitors and select Singles from the drop down list. The alternates, in order, are Tim Reago, Jason Cohen, Paul Smith, Ronald Kamdem and James Pack. These were difficult decisions to make.
The draw will be made on Monday evening and we will post start times to this website. Please check here on Monday at about 8:00 PM. Check in is from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Tuesday. There will be plenty of practice courts all day. Draws will be posted at the tournament desk. There is a player party at 6:00 that evening. We would like it if all can make it for the party, but understand that the middle of the week is not practical for many. Draws will be posted to this site upon completion of the first match on Wednesday.

2009 Purnell-Thomas Memorial Tournament
Tournament Information
This is a $25,000 men's prize money tournament that benefits Coastal Hospice in Salisbury, Md. This is not a USTA or ATP sanctioned event and will not count toward state, sectional, national or ATP rankings. To submit an entry for consideration, please visit our tournament website at www.purnell-thomas.org and fill out the online entry form. The tournament committee will review applications and select competitors based on their own criteria which will include ATP points, national and sectional USTA rankings as well as collegiate rankings. Please supply us with any information that will aid us in our decision making process.
Money is paid starting in the round of 32 for singles and the round of 16 for doubles. Byes do not count as wins. A player receiving a bye must win a round before any prize money will be paid. Players are asked to check in on Tuesday, August 18th in person in Salisbury, Md. There is a player party that evening and the draws will be unveiled at that time. Free housing is available upon request and will be with a local host family. Please expect to play your first round match between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM on Wednesday, August 19.
Facilities
We will be using the 12 newly-resurfaced outdoor hard courts on campus for all matches. There are three resurfaced indoor courts available on campus for practice in case of inclement weather. These will not be used for matches unless the committee feels we are too far behind and must make use of them. The indoor courts play very much like the outdoor courts and are painted exactly the same (thick baselines and such), but have direct flourescent lighting.
Entries
As we receive entries via the tournament website (see above), we are putting them into the tournament software. To verify that we have received your entry, click on competitors. This is only a list of received entries, not committee selections. Should we exceed 64 applicants in singles or 32 in doubles, we will then meet as a committee to go over applicants and select the field.
Hospitality
Free housing is available to all players and will be with a local host family who will provide transportation to and from the courts if needed. There are tournament parties on both Tuesday, August 18th and Saturday, August 22nd. Players are encouraged to come to both events if possible. On other nights, dinner is served at the courts and is donated by local restaurants that are sponsors of our event. There is a shuttle service available to players from BWI International Airport in Baltimore, Md. This service is provided by Bayrunner Shuttle, another of our sponsors.
Players are selected manually by the tournament director after the close of registration.
Entry to this tournament is open to all USTA members. Entries must be submitted by Sunday, August 16, 2009 12 Noon Eastern Time.
In the future, you can jump straight to this tournament by entering the tournament identification number: 302743409 from the searchable schedule homepage.
