USTA National Open Championships Selection Process

The selection process for the four concurrent USTA National Opens for each age division will be determined in the following order:

Step 1: Select up to 4 players per site from the top 100 players on the most recently published National Standings List of the next lower age division (i.e. Boys' 16 Singles) in the order in which their names appear on this list.

Step 2: Select up to 28 players per site from the most recently published National Standings List for the natural age division (i.e. Boys' 18 Singles) in the order in which their names appear on this list.

Step 3: Select any remaining registered players not yet in a draw whose names appear on the most recently published National Standings List of the natural age division (i.e. Boys' 18 Singles) in the order in which their names appear on this list.

Step 4: Select any remaining registered players not yet in a draw whose names appear on the most recently published National Standings List of the next lower age division (i.e. Boys' 16 Singles) in the order in which their names appear on this list. The boundary of top 100 players no longer applies in this step. Any players on this list will be selected.

Step 5: Any remaining entrants will be selected in the order of the strength of their player records. This will be done by the Tournament Director manually.

Players not selected for their first choice shall remain in the pool of applicants for entry into the other concurrent tournaments by the strength of their player records. Those players who have not been selected after all four draws have been filled shall be placed in alternate pools at all concurrent tournaments for which the players indicated a preference in the system. After the selection proces is completed, Tournament Committees/Directors may order the alternates list based on the player records and/or place an alternate into the player list if someone withdraws.

Regardless if all four draws are filled or not, any players with no other site preferences specified will be placed into the alternate lists by the Tournament Director. Any alternates not appearing on the National Standing List of the natural age division will be ordered by lot.
