EVENTS
Singles
and Doubles
SELECTION
PROCESS
Players will be selected for
Southern L1, L1A, L2, and L3 Tournaments ONLY from the most recent Southern
Standing List of the division of the tournament; players will no longer be
selected from the next-younger division Southern Standing List.
Doubles Selection Criteria (Doubles play in the
division selected for Singles)
1.
Both
players have been selected in singles
2.
One
player has been selected into the singles and is partnered with an alternate
3.
Both
players are alternates
4.
One
player has been selected into the singles and is partnered with no singles
entry
5.
Alternate
and no singles entry
6.
Neither
are entered in singles
Please contact Tournament Director directly via email if you are only
playing doubles.
ENTERING TWO DIVISIONS
Players can enter two divisions in Southern Levels 1A, 2,
and 3 tournaments.
1. Players
selected to both age divisions they apply for will automatically be selected in
the older age division. They would be removed from the other age division.
2. Players
not selected to either division would remain on the alternates lists for both
division but would be obligated to play the division they first get in from the
alternates list. They would be removed from the Alternates list in the other
division.
3. Players
selected to one age division would be removed from the alternates list of the
division they were not selected.
4. Once a
player is selected for any one division no changes can be made.
SEEDING
and DRAWS
Seeding shall be done using only the results
from most recently published USTA Southern Combined Standings Lists of the
division in the order in which players appear on the list. Players selected on
their 10's standing shall not be considered for seeding in the 12's
division.
Doubles Seeding Criteria: Teams shall be seeded in the order of their combined standings
(e.g., Player A holds the #1 standing and Player B holds the #10 standing. The
Team of A & B would have combined standing of 11.) Teams that have the same
combined standing shall be seeded by the by the highest singles seed of the
four (4) players.
Seeding will be completed on
Wednesday, September 5th, prior to the Waterfall process.
Draws and seeds will be posted on Thursday, September
6th at noon.
WATERFALL
PROCESS FOR SPLITTING COMPETITORS
Thirty-two (32) players will be selected for each
event (see selection process headline) and then be split into two Draws of 16
players using the Waterfall System for selection. If a draw has 23 players or less, then a single 32-draw will be played
with feed-in through the quarterfinals. Seeding will be made prior to the players being split. The 32
players will be split as follows.
Red Draw: 1,4,5,8,9,12,13,16,17,20,21,24,25,28,29,32
White Draw: 2,3,6,7,10,11,14,15,18,19,22,23,26,27,30,31
PLAYING FORMAT AND SCORING
BG10s:
Boys and Girls 10's will play on the regular 78' court, using
Green Ball. The required scoring format for 10's singles matches shall be the
best of two short sets with regular scoring (first to four (4) and win by two),
with a set tiebreak (first to seven (7) and win by two) at 4-4 in each set, and
a set tiebreak (first to seven (7) and win by two) in lieu of the third
set.
BG12-18s
All Singles draws will play the best two out of three tie-break
sets with a Match tie break in lieu of the third set, with a Full Feed in
Consolation through the Quarterfinals and 3/4 playoff. The Finals
of the Consolation Draw will not be scheduled and will not be played.
DOUBLES FORMAT
BG10-18s: All Doubles draws will be a
6-game set (regular scoring), with a 7-point tiebreak at 6-all.
DOUBLES ENTRY AND CONTACT
To enter the
doubles: All players must e-mail the Tournament Director, Margaret Faughnan at
MFaughnan@augustaga.gov after the singles selection process is complete. The doubles entry deadline is Wednesday, 9/5/18 at noon.
Registering online does NOT guarantee a spot in the doubles draw. To enter with
a partner BOTH players must confirm their partner's name in
the email. Those who need a partner should also enter via email stating they
need a partner. Although it is not the responsibility of the tournament
committee to match a player with a partner, we will do our best to help pair as
many players as possible. Failure to submit the doubles entry via email will
result in the players not being entered in the doubles draw.
SCHEDULE OF PLAY (subject to draw size)
Friday: two rounds of doubles
Saturday: one round of doubles and two
rounds of singles
Sunday: one round of doubles and two
rounds of singles
ALTERNATES
Alternate’s List: The alternate list will be updated daily after
selections are made. Once posted, it will be listed above - "Alternate by
Event" list. If you plan to enter another tournament, you must first
e-mail the Tournament Director to take your name off the alternate list.
On Site Alternates must register at their age group's tournament
site. You must inform the Tournament Referee on Thursday night or before that
you plan to be an On-Site Alternate. Please make sure we have accurate contact
information for you to be reached during the weekend. On-Site Alternates will
be selected in the order of the Alternates List. On Site Alternates should be
on-site when their age and gender check in for play 30 minutes prior to the
first match in the first round (or 2nd round if there are Byes).
WITHDRAWALS PRIOR TO ENTRY DEADLINE
If you have entered and wish to withdraw prior to the entry deadline, please go
to the tournament web page and click on Edit Registration. You will need your
confirmation number that you received in your confirmation e-mail to complete
the withdrawal process.
WITHDRAWALS AFTER SELECTION & DURING TOURNAMENT
A player shall not enter a tournament and then withdraw when the player discovers
that tough opponents have also entered. A player may withdraw from a match or
tournament only because of injury, illness, or personal circumstance; written verification must be provided.
A player who cannot play a match shall notify the Referee in writing (NO
PHONE CALLS WILL BE ACCEPTED) immediately so that the opponent may be
notified at once and saved a trip. A
player who withdraws from a tournament is not entitled to the return of the
entry fee unless the player withdrew prior to the published refund deadline
date. Deadline for refund: players must withdraw by Noon on Friday, August
31st to receive a refund.
WEATHER/REFUNDS
In the event of inclement weather and you do not play any matches in this
tournament you are entitled to a partial refund based on the fixed tournament
expenses. Please understand that tournaments have fixed costs which include:
Trophies, T-shirts, Balls, USTA Officials, and many other costs that we must
cover. The Tennislink portion of your entry fee is non-refundable in accordance
with USTA policy. If you do complete a match, there is no refund/credit. Thank
you for your understanding.
PLAYER REGISTRATION
Players can
register early on Friday, September 7th at Newman Tennis Center
beginning at 3:00 pm OR at your site
location at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled match time (NO
EXCEPTIONS)!

ATHLETIC
TRAINER
For this event, the Trainer will be
located at Newman Tennis Center.
STRINGER
There will be a stringer available
at Newman Tennis Center.
DRESS CODE
The Tournament
committee has set a dress code for this Tournament, the rules to which all
participants are expected to adhere. These Rules are based on our community
standards and all participants must observe, all rules, at all of the sites
used during the tournament. Good manners on and off the court will be required
of all participants, coaches and family at all times. Proper tennis attire
should be worn. For females, proper attire does not include, roll down waist
bands on skirts or shorts, or exposure of skin between tops and skirts or
shorts. For males, proper attire does not include tank tops or sleeveless
shirts, or shorts worn below the waist. Shirts must be worn at all times. Please respect our standards and adhere to
our rules. Failure to do so will result in the player being required to change
prior to the match. This delay may result in penalties (PPS) being assessed.
TENNIS BALLS BEING USED
We will be using Wilson U.S. Open Extra Duty balls. Wilson Green balls
for 10's.
