Notes
Thank you to everyone for participating in the 26th Annual
Southern Senior Cup Team Championships. With more than 300
participants this weekend in Huntsville, the Senior Cup was
well-represented by each of the nine states in the Southern
section. Despite a rain delay on Friday morning, the weather was
perfect, and the team camaraderie and spirit was at its best. Tani
Deaton and Joc Simmons did another remarkable job in serving up
another fabulous championship this year. The Southern Cup would not
be possible without the work of our dedicated 18 captains, who have
coordinated the schedules and arrangements for 3-5 teams for their
respective state. The state winner for the Women's Overall
Championship goes to SOUTH CAROLINA with 40 championship points.
There was a tie for second place for Georgia and North Carolina at
26 points, followed by Louisiana in fourth place with 22 points.
The state winner for the Men's Overall Championship goes to GEORGIA
with 41 championship points. South Carolina follows behind them in
second place with 31 points. Tennessee and Louisiana round out the
third and fourth place positions with 26 and 16 points. The state
titleholder for the Mildred Southern Cup, which goes to the state
with the most overall men's and women's championship points, goes
to SOUTH CAROLINA with 71 championship points. This was an
extremely tight race with Georgia following closely behind in
second place at 67 points. North Carolina and Tennessee both
finished at 40 points for third. The state victor for the Gil Stacy
Memorial Cup, which goes to the state with the most individual
wins, goes to GEORGIA with 56 points. In another tight race, South
Carolina follows closely behind at 53 points for second place.
Alabama finished at 3rd with 45 points, and Tennessee came in at
4th with 41 points. Congratulations to all of our award winning
teams. This was by far and away the closest race for all of our
championships! All of the states in the Senior Cup 2012 should be
proud. This just reinforces that the Southern Senior Cup continues
to be the crown jewel of adult competition in the South. We hope
that everyone had a safe trip back home, and we'll see you next
year for the Southern Senior Cup 2013! Chris Walling, Director of
