Welcome!
Welcome to the 3rd Annual Liz Mahon Memorial Doubles Open for Adults! This doubles only tournament was established to honor one of Texas' First Ladies of Tennis, Phebe "Liz" Mahon. Liz Mahon was a tennis icon in the Dallas / Fort Worth Metroplex, organizing classes, clinics and drills for adults and juniors, a junior tournament circuit and USTA leagues. Liz was also instrumental in the building of Arlington Tennis Center.
Fees include a player lunch on Saturday and tournament towel. All divisions guaranteed two matches! Join us for fun on and off the court, all while honoring Liz Mahon!

Deadline
The deadline for this tournament is Sunday, February 13, 11:59 PM.
- On line entries must be completed by the deadline. Issues with on line registration should be directed to
linkteam@usta.com. Note that Link Team may not be able to respond instantaneously to emails in the last moments before the deadline, so please do not wait until the last minute to register.
- Paper entries must be in the hands of the tournament staff by the deadline.

Eligibility
- Adult players are eligible to play
NTRP levels the month they turn 19 years old.
- Players who are moved up in level during the year must play in the new levels division unless they moved up after the entry deadline.
- Junior players who enter adult divisions must play Open. Juniors are not eligible to play NTRP levels (see first bullet).
- Players are limited to two events. Players may enter one doubles (men's, women's or mixed), or they may enter men's/women's doubles and mixed doubles.

USTA Membership Required
The Liz Mahon Doubles Open is a USTA sanctioned tournament, and USTA Membership is required to participate. Your USTA Membership info is the official data downloaded and used by the tournament staff. Cell phone numbers and email addresses are critical, so please check your information before you register.

Entering the Tournament
- This tournament accepts and paper entries. No phone, fax or email entries will be accepted.
- Entry information must be completed, and entry fees must be paid before players will be put in the tournament.
- The entry fee for this tournament is $33 on line (including Tennis Link fee) per person for each event entered, or $34 for paper entries. The Tennis Link fee is non refundable.
- You should receive a confirmation number when you register on-line. If you do not, or if you have any problems with on-line registration, contact
linkteam@usta.com.
- Check Applicants after registration and before the deadline for the most updated information. Competitors list may not be complete until the morning after the deadline.

Note About Doubles
- Players MUST register for Doubles with a partner.
- Once the deadline passes, players whose partners did not register (or who are not eligible) may be removed from the tournament.
- Before the deadline and before registering for Doubles, confirm your partner is playing, that he/she is eligible, and that he/she is playing with you, not someone else.

Format
- The format for this tournament is best of three full sets, regular scoring.
- Alternative scoring may be used due weather issues.
- The Coman Tiebreak will be used when a set reaches six all. (Coman Tiebreak: Players change ends after the first point, and thereafter every fourth point.)
- All events with five or more entries will be first match loser consolation. If three or four teams are entered, the event will be a round robin.
- Some events with fewer than three players may be combined with another division. Players will be contacted (if contact information is available) before combining with another division.

Alternative Scoring
If the Referee elects to use alternative scoring (e.g., 10-point Match Tiebreak) due to extreme weather or other issues, please note:
- Players take only a two-minute break after the second set (not a 10-minute break).
- Players do not leave the court (they go directly into the 10-point tiebreak after the two-minute set break).
- Players do not receive new balls for 10-point Match Tiebreaks.
- A decision regarding alternative scoring may not be made until shortly before matches begin. Players will be advised of the alternative scoring before they go on court for their matches.

Draws
Draws for this tournament will be posted by Tuesday morning, February 22, 8:00 am. Draws will be updated nightly during the tournament, with final results reported to local newspapers.

Seeding
Seeding for this tournament may be based on rankings, current records and head-to-head encounters.
|
|
Schedule of Play
- This tournament begins Friday, February 25. Some draws may not begin play until Saturday, February 26. We will avoid Friday night play when possible.
- Players should arrive at their first match site 30 minutes prior to start of match. Please provide a cell number when you check in for your first match!
- Players should arrive at subsequent matches at least 15 minutes before the match is scheduled to begin.

The 2011 Monster Jam will be at Cowboys Stadium on February 26.
Traffic will be heavy. Plan ahead to arrive at your match timely.

Withdrawing
- Please let us know as early as possible if you must withdraw so that we can update draws timely.
- Withdrawals prior to the deadline should be done on line at the tournament website by selecting the
Edit Registration from the left menu.
- Withdrawals after the deadline, but before the tournament begins, should be done by email to
atc@arlingtontx.gov.
- Players who will not play once the tournament begins (technically Friday evening) should contact the Referee at 817-459-6163 to verbally pull out of the tournament, in addition to sending the email to
atc@arlingtontx.gov, as email may not be read timely during the event.
- Out of consideration for your opponents and for tournament staff, please do not "no show" for your matches.

Awards
Awards will be given for First, Second and Consolation in all divisions, including Round Robins.

Officials
All officials for this tournament are USTA certified, and the USTA code of conduct will be enforced. Court monitors may also be used, as needed.

Official Ball
The official tournament balls for this tournament are Penn Championship Yellow Extra Duty. A new can of balls will be distributed for each match and for split sets (if playing a full third set).

Arlington Tennis Center is located directly across the street from Medical Center of Arlington, one of our area's largest hospitals. In addition, Medical Center of Arlington has a state of the art, sports medicine and rehabilitation center. We hope you do NOT require its services!

Advance Planning
- Alcoholic Beverages: Alcoholic Beverages are prohibited on the property (including the parking lot).
- Cell Phones: Please note that players may NOT use cell phones on court or in the Tournament room. Please turn them OFF. Spectators who use cell phones on the property should be mindful of whether their conversations interfere with tournament play (in which case, they will be asked to leave the area or turn the phone off) or normal business operations of the facility. Thank you for your cooperation.
- Dress Code: We ask that all players and spectators wear traditional attire appropriate for a family tennis environment. All guests (players and spectators) are required to wear shirts (including ladies wearing shirts over sports bras), and no bare stomachs / abdomens. Shorts and skirts should be of an appropriate length, as well. Players who do not dress appropriately will be asked to adjust their attire.
- Pets: Pets are prohibited in the Arlington Tennis Center proshop/building and inside the fenced areas around the courts.
- Smoking: Smoking is prohibited in the Arlington Tennis Center proshop/building & inside the fenced areas around the courts.
- Spectators: We welcome spectators for this event! However, spectators are not allowed on court at any time.
- Videotaping/Photography: Personal videotaping and photography are not allowed at any site, except persons who are videotaping 'their' player from a non-distracting position off court. The umpire or tournament staff may direct the videotaping or photography to stop if it is determined by the official as interfering or distracting to either player.
- Water-ATC: Water coolers are not placed on courts at Arlington Tennis Center. However, a commercial ice machine and water fountain are located on the west patio, and water fountains are also available near outer courts. Players and guests are also welcome to purchase bottled water, fountain drinks, sports drinks and juices in the proshop, and players may bring their own water jugs on court.
- Water-Other Sites: Water may not available at alternate sites. Players should plan accordingly.
