Match Formats
This is a novice tennis tournament for boys and girls playing singles and/or doubles ages 10-18. There will be a 10 and Under division using
60 foot courts playing the best of 2 shorts sets (first to 4 and win by
2), with a set tiebreak (first to 7) and win by two (2) at 4-4 each set
and a set tiebreak (first to seven (7) and win by two (2) for the third
set. AD SCORING.
The 12 and Under division will play with the green low compression ball.
Doubles will be an 8 game pro set. Singles will be best 2 out of 3 sets with the 3rd set being a tie-break.
All other divisions will play best two (2) out of three (3) set with the 10-point tiebreak used in lieu of the third set.
|
Match played with Tie-break in Lieu of 3rd Set
A 3-minute Set Break will be taken after splitting sets. During this
break, the players may receive coaching on court. Players are not
permitted to leave the court except for a legitimate toilet/change of
attire break. A player taking a toilet/change of attire break, for
which "reasonable time" is allowed (see court official), may receive
coaching during that break. A player remaining on court while the
opponent takes a toilet/change of attire break, may receive coaching
until the opponent returns. Cell phones may be used by players on court
to receive coaching during the break. A player taking a toilet/change
of attire break may also use a cell phone to receive coaching. Cell
phones must be turned off at the end of the 3-minute set break.

Each age group will have a consolation round. Every player is

Thursday, June 12, 2015 by 3:00pm. The earliest a match would be
played on Friday is 5:00pm and Saturday and Sunday will be determined by
the number of participants we have registered.

Junior Suspension Points
Junior Suspension Points for Failure to Compete a Tournament. The
number of players not completing all matches in a tournament is very
high. There are numerous withdrawals once the draws are posted and many
walkovers in the consolations. The penalty below is minor, however,
those who continuously fail to complete a tournament will understand
this is not acceptable. Failure to play a match is not fair to
opponents, costly to opponents, and not good sportsmanship. NCTA
realizes the importance of school to the players, a school exempt clause
is included (passed by NCTA board 10/09).

This tournament is a Great Sports Event
Tennis comes with a bloodline of
sportsmanship that few other sports can match. Even though there are
officials roving the courts, it is still an un-officiated sport.
* Always
give the benefit of doubt to your opponent on a close line call.
* Make
calls against yourself, such as a double-bounce or touching the net while
the point is in progress.
* Call
out the score every point.
* Congratulate
your opponent on great shots.
* Parents
– be good sports outside the court.
* And
win or lose, end the match with a removal of hats and a handshake at the
net!
To reward the good sports at our
tournament the officials or directors will be handing out pins to players who
exhibit great sportsmanship and uphold the tradition of honor in our
sport.
Good luck to everyone!
